Cumbres & Toltec Scenic Railroad

Thank you all!

Here are four more screenshots...I'd better slow down or I'm going to run out of archived screenshots too soon! :hehe:

Thanks, Todd! Haha, as soon as I get the money...the next major purchase will be $347.59...I have less than half that, and unless I get a new job, it'll be at least a couple months before I have the amount I need. -gag- However, within the next month, I should have a new job...they're building a second Sam's Club, and my second cousin is a manager. Though she has no influence for hiring, she said it's almost definite that I'll get a job there. :D I'll put more of my archive screens on here tomorrow! Or maybe I'll just do it later today...hmmm...:hehe:

Thank y'all so much!

Tim

ARGH! I know what you mean. Money is tight these days :( I remember a few years back when my pc died, and I was without one for about a year. I had such a Trainz withdrawl...

Good luck with the new job.

Regards,
Todd

OKAY! I've gotten Trainz back out of the roundhouse and running again! :p Did a lil' work on the C&TS this morning. Scrapped the old shrubbery splines (GAG), and added my own models of the Big sagebrush and Mountain mahogany in the region. I had made the models before the old computer crashed, but never got to put them in Trainz. Also...all the images are now 1280 X 1024...I'm pretty sure you'll be happy with that, Robbie. ;)

Hangman's Trestle, facing westbound. Looks like I need two major things...Trainz Tuner, and to make my own track...

There's a photo in Ticket to Toltec from this exact angle, with 488 pulling a heritage freight across the trestle.

Well, I haven't gotten to work in Trainz for the past few days, but I have been experimenting with Blender. I'm having some video artifact issues with 3ds Max and gMax, which aren't making the programs impossible to use, just VERY annoying. I think it's a video card issue...hopefully once I get a new card, or a new driver comes out for my current one, OR Win 7 goes retail, problems will straighten out. :hehe: Anyway, did I mention my use of Blender? Haha! Coming from an avid gMax user, it is a WHOLE new experience, but I've managed to get the "rough draft" of the mesh for some 3' gauge trackage done. Now comes the exciting/daunting task of figuring out how to bully it into Trainz.

Well, it's been quite some time since I've posted on the C&TS. I wouldn't call this project "vaporware" just yet, but it has stalled, thanks to compatibility issues between TRS 2006 and Windows 7 Pro 64. -sigh- There's also issues with gMax that have forced me into the Blender realm, but I am finding it to be MUCH better than gMax in so many ways. I'm actually getting the hang of it. So until this issue between Trainz and Win7Pro is resolved, not much work will get done on the C&TS. With that said, I am still creating models, and if someone would like to do the Trainz part of these little doo-dads, I'll supply the imagery. At DRGW489's request, I made this crossing sign:

I have also been working on this section of track for use on the C&TS or any other 3 foot gauge application:

Hope everyone enjoys! I will continue on more C&TS content.

If you make your own track, how will others aquire it ? Will it be compatable for TS2010 users ?

There is a fair looking NG track on DLS:
1000mm_cmNG -huphgeign
1000mm_cmNG_rusty -huphgeign
1000mm_cmNG_grass -huphgeign
1000mm_cmNG_adap _huphgeign

Whether it works in TS2010 is unknown.

Are others with standard Windows 7 OS that are having trouble running TRS2006/TS2010 ?

TRS2010 is so drastically different, I have no idea if it'd work. As it is, I can't create ANYTHING, just models, so that'll depend on if someone can get it into Trainz or not. I may be able to create configuration files, but that'll be the extent of it. And I'll be releasing the content...if you go through many of the prior posts, you will find that I have already released a lot of content for this route. And 1000 mm track is considerably wider than 3' gauge...not close to the same thing at all.

Tim, I'm one of those who also had trouble getting TRS2006 to work with Win7, Win7 is a great OS so far, but my copy of TRS2006, which is one of the oldest copies, simply will not install correctly, even if I try to run it in XPSP2 compatibility mode, it simply won't work, I can get into it, I can even open some of the routes and some actually do show up, but there is nothing that would allow trains to run, or to edit, no way to edit a route from Surveyor, when you open the edit window, there is nothing in it to edit, so I finally gave up and started using TC1&2, so far that seems to be working fine.

I do plan on purchasing TS2010, but am waiting not only to have funds available for that purchase, but also to give Auran/NV3 Games a chance to get some of the bugs out of it.

I have always looked forward to downloading your C&TS route, and still do, but TRS2006 may be a dinosaur that you may have to consider leaving behind with Win7, I know there are newer versions of TRS2006 out, and may consider picking up a newer DVD copy of it with SP1 already installed, however, as I said before TC1&2 are working fine right now.

Yes, I agree with you there. I'd like to use TRS2010, but am waiting for the same reasons. I am hoping that the route will be upgradeable, but am not holding my breath due to the 5m tile system and different resolution textures. But I am hopeful. I have used Rail Simulator some for a while now, and would go for it completely if the terrain editor was more Trainz-like, along with the use of track splines. I have had extreme difficulty creating switches and points in RS, but I am probably overly-complicating things. I await the ability to get TRS2010 on my machine and utilize it, and I hope that there is good support for Blender, because as I become more and more familiar with it, I am quickly being drawn away from gMax as a whole, even though I still haven't looked into creating attachment points in Blender, or animating objects. But, I still have much to learn.

Well, at least I'm being consistent in getting models done now...

Here's a sign used to display stations/locations along the D&RGW. I aim for it to be nameable within Trainz. Just wish Trainz had Railroad Roman font... For the C&TS, I'll likely custom-name the individual signs.

I'm really getting into this, just making models...quite fun at the moment!

Timothy

Don't abandon 06. It may be losing support, but it is still the best trainz platform. TRS2010 seems to have too many problems right now from the sound of things.

TC seems to still be stable though

At least make your cars work with 06. Its been pretty easy to make rolling stock work with many versions
