Coupling issues Trainz 2010

Question for you all. I run a large map of PRR (My creation) . I run multiple trains departing sidings/engine house /Roundhouse etc. All shifting and coupling to their respected trains. Some are programmed to wait to allow others to couple before departures begin while other depart. During the coupling process as the engines are backing down to the consist at restricted speed (5 mph) as they couple the engine fails to couple and plows into the consists first car causing a derailment . I checked the consist ,replaced some and this does not happen to the same train it can be a different one each session. My question to you all is what could be causing the fail to couple under normal coupling conditions. Your thoughts and ideas are appreciated.

Hi

I use the driver commands "SetDCCSpeed" kuid:131986:1018:1 followed by "Couple Ahead" kuid:131986:1015:2 both by atilabarut and either built in or on the DLS

The way that I use them is I have a trackmark ahead of the consist to be coupled to. The loco Navigates or drives via that trackmark say at 5 mph. That command is followed by SetDCCSpeed set to about 0.18 and then Couple Ahead. Depending on what your next command is you may need a reverse direction command after the couple.

It may take bit of trial and error to get the trackmark position and SetDCCSpeed correct but it is possible to get reasonably "soft" couples using this method. It also has the advantage of not requiring a named vehicle to couple to.

Shane this is done by the AI on the backing down the consist. I have even stopped the trains prior to coupling and when they resume the AI runs the engine back at restricted speed but it fails to couple and plows through the consist.

Hi Train-doc

I'm confused now as I've spent 6 years thinking that AI can only use DCC mode and not cab mode. How have you got it to do this as it should give better physics than DCC mode and so would be very useful to know?

Brian DCC mode is if you desire to use the engine as if running a model railroad . Cab is if you want to control them from the cab or have the AI drive them in cab mode. You can jumped from engine to engine in Cab and assume the controls when stopped and continued manually. You just have understand the controls and braking distance versus tonnage.

Still no luck I am still getting engine plowing into trains when the backing down to couple. I have updated my drivers and swapped engines. Deleted the driver command file and even moved the yard. Has anyone else had this problem. I am running win 7 64 bit...

Do you have any extra signals on the siding, and is there a track end or bumper on the end of the track? With a bumper, this will keep the train from going on and on as the AI sees the bumper as a red signal. For signaling, I only signal facing out from the siding so any trains on the siding will have a signal on exit.

When coupling, I've never had this happen. I simply get the info on the train car I want to couple to (ctrl-right click) and get the car name. Then I use the built-in Couple To... and pick the coach I'm coupling to. It has always worked without a hiccup whether using DCC or CAB mode.
