Well, Okay! But I Wanna Keep My MSTS Converts Private!

So What Do I Export the MSTS Model to Trainz Model and Send it to TRAINZ After I Asked the Author for Permission?

Mad isn't the issue (although I do disapprove) it is illegal. It violates the End User License Agreement of MSTS to reverse engineer any assets.

The only thing you can do is ask the original author to make a Trainz version or ask them for the source file so you can.

Models in MSTS and Trainz are specifically compiled files for each game, exported from a 3D modeling program (such as Blender). Whatever 3D program was used to craft the model will have a native file format which can be exported to create such a compiled file. That native format is the source file.

If you insist on continuing down the path of illegally decompiling models you do so on your own, don't ask here again. I'm fairly sure its a violation of forum rules.

Alright so once you receive permission from the original creator, the key thing to focus is to find mesh from the game you want. You need to extract and convert the mesh to OBJ format. Once you get the object in question into OBJ format, you will need a a 3D rendering software such as blender to re texture the object and place the attachment points for trucks, lights, couples ect. You may need to cut out the trucks from the original mesh and make it its own separate mesh. Easy way is to just cut them out completely and use existing trucks already made for trainz for the locomotive or rolling stock you want to convert.

Here's is a video that shows what you need to find and extract meshes you wish to convert to .OBJ. of course it is aimed for another game, just worry about the part up to the creation of an obj file.

I want SEPTA Silverliner II's in Trainz and they are in MSTS but that does me no good, and there is a Trainz set shown on youtube but it doesn't seem to be publicly available. Magicland had one but he never released it. I stopped playing MSTS over 20 years ago after I got Trainz. It is easier to build and modify routes in Trainz. But the newer Dovetail products have really good Amtrak and NJT routes that look realistic.

I'm having a bad feeling that MSTS conversions is gonna be a dead industry, in the next few decades.
These modders are constantly under threats of violating license agreement (that are 10+ years old), corrupted files, contact to the original creator that turned into radio silence, and time (we don't even know, if the original creator still have the original files. And also if the hard drive that the model is stored on failed)

It doesn't matter how old license agreements are, they are still valid until rescinded by the original licensee. Copyright also applies and in Australia lasts 70 years after the authors death, other countries have similar time-frames either longer but rarely shorter. Keeping conversions private includes not posting videos or screenshots/photos of the models.

Easy as, download Blender from https://www.blender.org/ 3d model the locomotive yourself, export to FBX and import that into Trainz..
Read here on here on how to create your own content for Trainz
