Convert MSTS to Trainz!

Right. Lovely.

I did some cleanup in this thread. I will re-read it later when I have more time and re-consider posts I deleted or have not yet deleted.

For future reference:
Please use the Report button if you need a moderator. Apparently the @ call option doesn't work for me. The only other way for me to find out about a topic like this (and its state) is if I accidentally read stuff. In this case I did as I wondered "hmmm, interesting topic title, I am surprised it didn't show up in the Reports list yet".

@Maxxp09 ,
Can you please stop the drama?
Can you please apply your knowledge about proper capitalization of words (or study it first)? It makes your posts easier to read (and as a result you might get less irritated replies).
And once you are done with that, I strongly suggest you focus your attention away from trying to find out how to do illegal / pirating activities and move your focus to learning Blender. Again, preferably without all the drama.

Yes, Blender is hard (or feel that way when you just start). So what? Rome wasn't build in a day either. All good things take time. And since you are 14/15 years old, time is something you have loads of.

And for those who wonder: Yes, I have seen the "2021" topic. That is an explanation, not an excuse. We are all different (or go with "some of use are more equal then others" if you prefer that), yet will all have to act within some rules, like the CoC or "not pirating".

I am going to keep this topic open.
For now.
Not because I personally think it will take a very positive turn by the OP any time soon, but I sometimes like to gamble and give it the benefit of the doubt.

But I Don't Know How to 3D Model by using Images...
Most people say to learn Blender from the start. Blender is really complicated! Perhaps the most complicated softwhere I ever used! I actually learned how to use Blender backwards. I found out how to take meshes from other games, open them up in Blender, then learn how to use the program as I gone along as I converted that mesh to work in Trainz. This is a great opportunity to do the same. Find whatever mesh you want to convert into Trainz and learn how to build content for Trainz as you go along.

I come from a time not so long ago when people bought music on CDs and then came the Mp3 player. People then ripped those CDs and put all their music into the MP3 player. Yes some people shared those songs with others and yes that wasn't right, but the music industry freaked and villified people who just wanted to use their own personal music library in an alternative way.

As long as you keep your converts to yourself for personal use, all the power to you and your enjoyment of Trainz.

The most complicated 3d modelling software I ever used was Gmax, when I first checked out Blender I think it was version 2.5 or 2.6. I didn't progress to learn it further as there were no tutorials available for MSTS back then not even the exporter was available from memory "could had been an earlier version".. Anyhow, I decided purchasing Train Sim Modeler to make my models. This was a good starting point for me

I then downloaded and tried out a few other 3d modelling software, Google Sketchup Pro 8, 3ds Max, Maya, AutoCAD, Inventor, Sketchup "later versions" and finally decided that I liked Blender 2.78/2.79 then it updated to 2.79a following 2.79b and I was amazing with how quickly I learnt how to use Blender. As soon as 2.80 came along, alright I did download it it was confusing as anything because everything has changed.. Don't worry, I never gave up took until 2.93 to learn everything of the newer version of Blender

The last software I purchased was 3d Crafter 10 Professional by Amabilis, in early 2024. Late 2024, early 2025 the Amabilis website is disabled, but can be accessed via the web archive to download 3d Crafter 9.5 and 3d Crafter 10 including both version extensions. Purchasing 3d Crafter 10 Professional is obsolete.. Don't worry you can still export to Trainz, MSTS, BVE, RailWorks/Train Simulator using 3d Crafter 10 free version download from https://web.archive.org/web/20240229154448/https://amabilis.com/
Also helpful if you have your old Train Sim Modeler DST source files, you can export into a different format or export them into any of the above games.

What really helped me to get more involved to learn Gmax and to learn more about other 3d modelling software, was because 2 Trainz members here on the Trainz forums Davido and NSWGR_46Class had provided their some 3d model source files. I will admit it was fun pulling the models apart and learning how everything came together, I also did the same for purchased 3d models and model source files I obtained from other authors or downloaded freely

This is how I learnt how to 3d model, as for creating textures I am still on a path trying to learn everything LOL

I started with 3d Studio R4 DOS. Its interface was easy to navigate, although menu driven and had its own graphical interface. Max came along and it was too complex. What was easily done in R4 DOS took way too many steps in Max. It was as if Discreet developers went wild when they finally used Windows and threw every kind of tool they could into it including those stupid spinner things. By the time other 3d software became affordable, I had moved on and I no longer have interest in making models.

I was lucky to have tried a beta-version of 3ds Max. A friend of mine wrote one of the books for Autodesk Press on it along with a handful of other books on animation. She used my PC located at my brother's office for screen captures and writing and I did some proofing of the text before the films were output on my brother's ECRM VR30 imagesetter.

Now that is old school John.. Great Memories as well for me just seeing this post gave me a Snipette into my past during my school years learning computers back in 6th grade and that was almost 20 years ago man time flies when your having fun, eh!

I'm having a bad feeling that MSTS conversions is gonna be a dead industry, in the next few decades.
These modders are constantly under threats of violating license agreement (that are 10+ years old), corrupted files, contact to the original creator that turned into radio silence, and time (we don't even know, if the original creator still have the original files. And also if the hard drive that the model is stored on failed)
It's been a dead industry for the past 20 years! Even if you can convert MSTS models, why would you want to...? Virtual railroading has evolved greatly, and MSTS has essentially been left in the dust! I've run some of the old MSTS engines on Open Rails, and they look quite dated! So even if the original creator does have the original files, they probably won't be much use to many of us...

As for my region, MSTS or rather OR is very live and actual project, still being developed, there is still large community around, new models or reskins coming out too. With one exception, it is NO industry at all, completely based on fans&volunteers. Absolutely no payware, zero, nilch.
