But what the #@&* are you doing here? I know from the trainsim forums you are a bit disappointed with the latest incarnation of RailWorks, but I thought our horrid switches were a total off-putter for you?

I find it appalling that 10 years after I was first turned off by them cardboard cutout switches that I have to tell someone that no, there's been zero improvement, with some clumsy workarounds that don't work very well. I would have thought this would have been a crash priority 5 years ago.
As for the original question, my solution is to use a Raildriver and throw the keyboard out the nearest window. Or for a more dramatic effect throw the keyboard out the farthest window.
But I just now tried it in a test copy of 2010, using y u i o for the DCC controller keys. First problem is you have to go thru the list changing whatever already uses those keys to NULL so you don't get conflicts, second problem is either the raildriver controller is interfering or some keys are hard coded - for example I get forward in DCC mode hitting y, stop with u, but i and o don't do anything. Haven't tested it in a copy without the RD controller addon, gotta find one I didn't add it to. Other guess, windows 7 UAC?
Just change the throttle keys to the A&D in DCC and use that.
I am beta testing a route and was using DCC instead of the Raildriver in CAB. The physics in Trainz DCC are better than the Railworks lack of any physics.
The "Moire glimmer" in Railworks easily beats the lack of switch blades in Trainz with added frogs for being ugly.

We have been friends for a long time, another good one, Sniper, being here too and having nothing much to do with RW other than trying Chris Longhurst's creations for RW and testing and hosting friends routes on my web site have little else to do now. Having had Trainz since it's start am back for more punishment !
I am getting TZ-2012 to check what improvements have been made since TZ-2010 would appreciate somebody showing me what they have done to make TZ use compatible with MSTS keyboard keys, I have programmed into my PIEngineering X-KEYS pad for use with MSTSBin, ORTS and Railworks. O t t o

Probably very few in the Trainz community are playing MSTS and have worried about the keyboard layout.
Most Trainzers are only Trainzers. I have moved in that direction with the unstability of MSTS, the vaporware situation of OpenRails and the idiocy emanating from RSC.
