Progress update - The line has been built thru Los Pinos and is on it's way to Osier. Once I reach Osier I plan to go back and start refining the land forms and adding in crossing, etc etc.

Here is my yard at Cumbres, how does it look? Also, I can't figure out where the siding in the lower part of the photo ends, help?

I don't have an exact number (I'll look that up in a bit, as I have siding lengths for the whole San Juan Extension somewhere), but it ended part way down the next straight (after the curve at the bottom of your pic).


Mind giving me a close-up of the track? I suggest using a fairly lightly-used looking track, as the D&RGW typically didn't maintain their narrow gauge roadbed very well and the ties basically disappeared into weeds.

I agree with the track, I have not been very happy with it and have been thinking about an alternative. If I was to change, now would be a good time to do it.

Below is some alternatives, the one on the far left is the one I am using, the other 4 are options. Opinions? Starting with #1 from the left, which one would you think is best?
(Hint: I'm leaning toward #2 or #5)

I feel like the second one (3ft Dirt + Weeds) is likely to be the most accurate up until 2-3 years ago. The C&TS recently has gone on a fairly heavy upgrade project and has begun placing new ballast in an attempt to ease wear on the locomotives/cars.

I've actually used the 3ft Dirt+Weeds when attempting Cumbres Pass myself, so I'm okay with that.

However, either the far right or far left may work better considering your era.

Cumbres Pass looked like this in 1942:

Working on the Cumbres Pass area. Does anyone have information on the buildings (dimensional drawing would be very helpful) so I can get as accurate as possible?

FINALLY I have been able to spend some time on this. I relaid all of the track that I had put down so far with new, much better looking stuff (now I am happy with the track). I have been through a ton of grass textures until I came up with one I liked. Now I'm doing the same with trees. Spent a little time having some fun and built the stock pens at the Labato siding. Here is the San Juan passing the pens.

I have also gone back and started to build the Chama yard, some pics of it to come.
