Can you have different builds of the same Trainz version on the same computer?

Can you have different builds of the same version on the same computer?

Reason is that some older stuff works with one build, but doesn't work in another build.

Yes, as long as they are in different folders. However, watch out for possible patching issues, and keep an eye on which version it wants to install CDP files into from third-party sites.

I have TS12 builds 49922 and 61388 on diffent drives, works no problem.
Re shanes comment, I use cm to import content or just open cm and drag the cdp in.

I put my favorite routes in separate copies of Trainz.

They run better with a smaller database.

I have 49922 x2, 1 with DLC , 58414, 61388 x 2 again one with DLC. I need DLC free copies so I don't accidentally use any payware in my route.

I have 1 copy each of 49922 and 61388 on the same drive E, with no issues, the rest are also on one drive in that case F.

I have four versions installed. The original 2009, 2009 SP3, TS12 pre-SP1 and SP12 HF4. I've found that when a save to .cdp is done, that folder is referenced by all versions for save to and import. Just create a folder specifically for .cdp and that's it. Anything before 2009 have their own folders assigned.

Folder names & how do I direct a file to different builds & versions?

Does each version and build have to be in the company's name folders?

1. And how do you direct a file from the download station to different versions?
2. And the same question for different builds of the same version?

Where you install it is totally up to you.

If you use Content Manager, the asset you download will be installed into the game the Content Manager is part of.
If you download content from elsewhere and you double-click on it to install it, it will be added to the last game you installed.

Yes I kow that, but oknotsen, I mean if from the download station. I'm asking how do you direct an item from the download station into the correct version & build?

I'm wondering which is really a better folder to put them in, the My Documents, or the Program Files (x86) folder.

I wouldn't advise the My Documents folder, but I know some users (including me) use a folder outside Program Files/Program Files (x86), for example C:/Games/TS12.

As for which version content goes into, that's usually determined by which Content Manager you opened last, but my Trainz Protocol Changer tool can change this.

"If you download content from elsewhere and you double-click on it to install it, it will be added to the last game you installed." Quoting oknotson.
From external sites my downloads go into a download folder ( I choose save file), from there I install it wherever it goes.

Use the version of cm you want to install it into, cm has the same as the dls and is easier.
In cm, the line where it has type, status etc r/click on it and tick build number. Then you'll be able to see if the asset has a higher build number than the cm your using.

Their is a reason I also said from the download station. And that is that quite a lot of TS2010 items on the download station since the end of either 2011 or 2012 show up with the "unknown question mark". And these files can be unsearchable when you try to search via the content managers.

I have TRS2004, TRS2006, TS2009, TS2010 and TS212 all on one hard drive
The only problem is if I opened TRS2006 last any content = CDPs I double left click on auto then go to TRS2006.
To get them to go to TRS2004 you have to open then close the TRS2004 content dispatcher first then double left click, you then get the CDPs extracting into TRS2004
For TS2009 and above you can import any CDPs via the content manager of the version you are using at the time

Give me a specific example

quite a lot of TS2010 items on the download station since the end of either 2011 or 2012 show up with the "unknown question mark". And these files can be unsearchable when you try to search via the content managers.
I have been reading that a few times already, yet nobody has given any specific example of that yet.
So my question to you:
Do you have 1 or more kuids that are indeed not to be found via Content Manager yet are available via the black pages?
No general comment please; only specific kuids. Thanks.

An error?

Well this is odd, I have just got a message that their is an error

Setup - Trainz Simulator 12

C:\TRAIN SIMULATOR GAMES\TRAINZ TS BUILD 57825\TS12\Builtin\ts12a.ja

An error occured while trying to copy file:
Data error (cyclic redundancy check)

Click Retry to try again, Ignore to skip this file (not
recommended), or Abort to cancel installation.

(And the ABORT, RETRY, IGNORE buttons)

Edit: Pressed Retry, but a few minutes later the same error came up.

Having trouble installing same version, different builds on same computer?

I'm having trouble installing two builds of TS12 on the computer.

I installed the original TS12-Anniversary edition on computer
I then installed the same again, in a different folder, but after I patch it to the next build, the TS12 still shows as build 46957, even though it patches successfully to the next build.

Need thou help-ith please

Did you check which folder it was patching? With multiple versions, you have to tell the patcher which version you want it to patch if you are not using the auto-patch method (Launcher > Options > Planet Auran > Patch Trainz).
