C&O Hinton to Clifton Forge.

Dear all,

Having recently purchased T:ANE and marvelled at the Hinton Subdivision, I am considering building the Hinton/Alleghany/Clifton Forge (maybe, even, beyond?) section so those wonderful Auran H8 2-6-6-6s can strut their stuff on the correct portion of the C&O. I have looked at Google Maps and the actual route does not seem too hard to build and I will avail myself of the C&O Historical Society and any other useful source in order to build the best rendition I can. Obviously some artistic licence and impressionism may have to be included.

Before I start I wondered if anyone had any ideas or helpful hints. Has anyone already done this?

Many thanks.

Chris.

As I am the creator of both the Hinton sub division and the H8.....thanks for the nice comments.

The H8's were used all along the route from Handley to Clifton and beyond.

A couple of pointers for you should you seriously consider doing the Alleghany section....Google maps don't show any of the historical track work.....for that you need the historical maps from the USGS web server, a pain staking process. To get a proper rendition of the topology, you are also going to need the TransDEM program.....a pretty steep learning curve with that software but well worth the cost. It took me nearly a year to do the Hinton part and that is now under-going a major overhaul which is probably another year before completion & release. There are several more loco's I need to build first.

Hope I haven't discouraged you from doing it but it is a rather large task to under-take and do properly.

Regards
Peter
