Best Looking/Prettiest Trains (LARGE IMAGES)

@edh6: I have two diagrams for the DeGlehn compound; one for the GWR version and one for the original French version. PM me your email and I will gladly send them over.

An afternoon blizzard has set in as 37195 stands at Wisbech Goods Yard at the head of a rake of VGA vans being loaded with petfood for onward transit to Paisley, Scotland.
The long time Gateshead based loco is looking suitably grimy on February 10th 1983.

The BR Class 42 'Warship' class. Utter and pure beauty. Just look at it! Unspoilt lines, no ugly add-ons, it's even perfectly symmetrical! Although IMO Kestrel was slightly prettier, the Warships were the most beautiful diesels put in to production anywhere in the world...ever, bar none.

Another diesel-hydraulic, the Class 52 'Westerns'.

I like diesel hydraulics, don't I?

The NER/LNER J72 has got to be one of the most successful locomotive designs ever. The first one was built in 1898 by the NER, and the last was built in 1951 by BR!

A slightly different form of motive power in the form of GT3, a prototype gas turbine locomotive ordered by BR. Although it was completely useless it has to be the best looking gas-turbine locomotive by a mile! I would love to see one in Trainz!
City Of Truro. 24.05.08.jpg

Swindon's finest locomotive, City of Truro. The first steam locomotive (and man made object) to ever reach 100mph, a triumph of British engineering.

You can't go wrong with the modified Scottsman. I just wish they would have cut off those derpy looking bumpers as well to finish the image, but I guess that would have ticked off the Brits when they sent it back.

I am also partial to the P&W Libertyliners, which were repainted Electroliners.

I like it.

I really like these things by the way. I think it is called a Standard Five or something like that, but it has awesome Caprotti Valve gear, which I really like. Plus it looks beefy.

Yup, that's Brtish Railways' Standard 5MT design, with Caprotti valve gear. 5 is the power classification (goes from 0 to 9, so these locos are in the middle) and MT stands for 'Mixed Traffic'.

They're loosely based on Stanier's 'Black Fives' from the LMS.

@jordan412: I'm not a fan of 4449 but I must say, she does look quite beautiful with that fresh, gleaming coat of paint; same goes for the diesel behind.

BR Class 31206 taking a freight service towards Wisbech. See my own thread on the latest Railfuture.org.uk petition to get the Wisbech rail line re-opened

I love the Peaks. The 46's were my favourite purely because 46 is my lucky number but the 44's and 45's looked identical in the looks department.

9F Evening Star, although my fondness for it came from TC3 which has a beautiful model of it.

I'll second any vote for the IC125/Class 43.
