How thoughtful to spare the moderator the chore of having to change the user title, if it does actually occur. You "banned" guys are so sweet to do so, really caring guys!;)

you mean a moderator like zec? oh yeah hes in our little group too! just didn't change his title because he is a mod, i like zec. hes fun to talk to!

I was going to bring this topic up yesterday. While I do believe that we should be able to write whatever we want to, I personally believe that this word should be left for the admins.
I will agree with Ulmer94, It gets confusing as to whom might be banned.

lol whatever LOL you know this is the 1st time i've ever been ashame to read a post on here ya guys are acting like a bunch of little kids this place is meant to be about TRS not a d-a-m-n banned group!!!

I find nothing childish about being banned. (Doing childish things may get you banned) I think it it a serious thing to be banned. I also think it would be useful to know whom has been banned from the site.

the ones worried who is banned or not on a forum about a train simulator need to get out more often.
i realize this game is an obsession for some of you and some people spend more time posting on here then actually spending time in game. But lets remind our selves that this is a game whether it be a lifestyle or not, which if it is your lifestyle you need to rethink your life. for those that make payware and make a living off of you guys that call it your life style, well props to them, they are making money off your addiction.

I AGREE ! Grow up.

Wow, at the risk of beating a dead horse (really, there should be some sort of equine carcass abuse laws!!), it would be nice to know who reallyis banned, as well as who is truly in an authority position as far as the boards go. I've read plenty of good posts from the "Banned" people in this thread, as well as some absolute crap from the legitimately banned people. While I recognize the names in this thread (and mostly look forward to what they have to say), if I know someone has been a forum troll that gets off on baiting flame wars (and legitimately gets banned), I try to avoid wasting my time reading garbage from these people. (Sort of an ironic statement there, not wanting to waste time reading garbage, while reading the forums and replying is a monumental time waster in order to get away from day to day life:hehe:).

Many other forums use a color coded system (Owners of the forum blue, moderators red, Regular Joes black, and banned people gray). It would really be nice to have a system like this in place. Just my two cents. More dead horses here than at a glue factory! Moving on to the next corpse.

slabay - vBulletin can do all that you mentioned. In defense of N3V however, vBulletin is prone to rolling over like a dead horse with even seemingly simple configuration changes. I would not blame them at all if they had no desire to implement those changes.

why would people be getting banned?

Well may you ask, as I have been banned 4 times (four times) in the past myself. Usually for one month at each time. It was a personality clash of a M (at the risk of getting banned again for using the FORBIDDEN M word!!! and for discussing M decisions as per the CoC) in a foreign language forum of Trainz. I am bilingual and I was born in Austria, hence I speak Austrian and if you happen to know what language Austrians speak, then you might guess which foreign language this might be. I was completely vindicated after complaining to N3V Games LOUDLY and OFTEN over a VERY LONG period, some years actually, when this M was finally removed for abuse of his position in the forum.

The point I am trying to make is, people get banned for various reasons, if the reason of getting a ban is genuine and one deserves to get banned, so be it and one will live by/with it. In my case, it affected my health, I was soooo close of chucking all my creating for Trainz away and just walk away from Trainz. But then I thought, why should I feel guilty because I had been getting banned, it was NOT MY FAULT as this particular M was a dictator in this particular forum. He dug his own grave when I looked through his own posts, to plainly see where he blatantly and often actually started arguments in the forum himself. M means to moderate, to calm some threads/posts/members BUT NOT to inflame a particular situation himself by his actions, by his words used, by his denigrating, often spiteful and hated answers to posts, as he so often did.

He, at the time was the most prolific poster in this particular forum BUT when some answers to his posts or replies was not to his liking or someone showed him up for what he REALLY was (a bully), you just coped his wrath. At that time he was the SOLE M in that forum, some 33 000 members large and blind Freddy could see, this was too much for this person to handle. When pointing this out to the powers that be, overnight suddenly there were 4 (FOUR) new Ms to this particular forum added, unfortunately they all spoke fluently ENGLISH but NOT the language the forum used. This brought a wry smile to my face, how the hell can the new added Ms see what was going on.

Anyway, it was left to me to translate some of the very serious posts and activities of that person and to send these translations in, they all could have been easily checked by anyone NOT speaking that particular language by Google Translate, why this was not done on a regular basis, your guess is as good as mine.

I hope I do not get banned again, just by HIGHLIGHTING some issues faced by some members of Trainz, especial if they happen to post in a foreign language forum of Trainz, which could have been so easily rectified in the past by N3V Games.

One other thing before I go, my first ever "refraction" what ever the hell that means and receiving some penalty points by an overzealous person not here anymore for having the "heinous crime" for having my signature picture by several pixels or bytes too large. Would it not have been easier by that person to either send me a PM or an email to point this out instead of "refracting" me by some penalty points?

Where does one go to complain about such unjustified issues you might well ask? The HelpDesk is the only place where one can do so and you know how long that will take? But make damn sure you are completely right and on solid grounds about your complaint(s) as otherwise things will remain as they are.

My experiences and my own opinions, no animals where harmed in setting up and writing this post.

There you go, Engineerkenny....you wanted to know why people get banned, and you got it from the horses' mouth....you never know until you ask....

.. for discussing M decisions as per the CoC)

Which, to be fair, can easily be a breach of the CoC in and of itself. You don't have to agree with the moderators, but if you deliberately make their life hard then you can reasonably expect a ban. (I'm not speaking of your case in particular, as I don't know anything about it, but it's true in general terms so don't go around criticising the moderators.) We don't like to have overbearing moderators, but we do cut them a lot of slack because they have rather thankless jobs.

In an ideal environment, we could allow free discussion of this kind of topic. Unfortunately, many people abuse that kind of privilege and use it as an excuse to push their own agenda. ("Oh, I got banned, but i'm the innocent one! The moderator is on a power trip!") Again, not pointing the finger at you, just explaining why these policies have to be in place. Unfortunately, if a moderator really is being a problem, the policy can work against us by hiding the evidence of their actions.

...they all could have been easily checked by anyone NOT speaking that particular language by Google Translate, why this was not done on a regular basis, your guess is as good as mine.

Google Translate is close to useless for this kind of moderation. It is often sufficient to get the basic facts of a discussion point across, but picking up any nuances of opinion or insult from a translated text is impossible. Even if the translation is perfectly accurate, the differences in culture are often sufficient that a friendly post could come across as rude or condescending.
