Australian screenshots

That's beautiful Davido. Man i love your layouts!

And big mention to Axe as well for the quality screenshots. Love your "modern" freight theme. You've really portrayed it so well.
My favourite shot is the one with the two 422's and the tankers in the yard. Awesome.

I've just recently finished detailing the creek area of Boree Creek. Wasn't too sure what texture to use for the dry creek bed. I ended up using one of the TS12 Australian green grass textures to give it that damp look underneath the grass where the stream runs. It'll do for now i guess.

stunning work Dimi i love the detail of the vegetation i cant wait to try your route

Hey axe is that oxford to queens route an addon to the current goergetown to tarin rocks? and when will it be released?

Yes it is Oxford to Queens adds another 100km to the Georgetown to Tarin Rocks. Give or take a few Km's ;) Plus I have extended the Branchline at Archiefield to Clyde which now extends to Janniali Valley. I think that branchline is around 80km.

The TS2010 version should be released very soon. Just adding detail and odds and ends.

Thanks Dimi. I love your shots. I am going to have to step up when I start building a TS2012 route. Outstanding.

axe, I dunno how you can make such long layouts! Went to work tonight, and bashed out one baseboard (I've got the track and the landscaping done for a few boards yet, it's just placement of scenery, roads, vegetation, textures etc that needs doing). You're a machine, and you seem to lose nothing in visual effect from the length of the layouts, they are always spectacular!

Anyway, some more slow progress... when I've done the next board, I'll run some trains over it to see what it looks like.

Raichase, i think that too when i start of a layout. But recently i just used a heap of Muliebuck's module layouts and have just ended up with a 80+ baseboard layout! Getting close to completion and its taken me just over a week to build. Still adding in Roads and telegraph poles at the moment and havent really thought when to end the track ;)

Cheers

Don't forget I have been working on this route since 2007, and often what you see in the final release isn't what I first had envisioned. Georgetown to Tarin Rocks originally finished at Richmond. Everything west of Richmond was added on to Vineyard then I added track to Tarin Rocks. Try to finish what you are working on before adding more length.

I also get inspired from the screenshots here and I add another 5km here and there. I like to add yards and industries so a whole lot of area goes with that. I also run a lot of sessions while I am building new sections which again inspires me to do something more.

Also Copy & Paste is my friend.

Your route is looking good. Very natural. Make a decision to finish it at a certain point, complete it to as close to release as you can, then you can decide to add more later. Take your time.

Hey axe, will the TS2010 version of your route work in TS09 if patched up to SP4?

I don't know. I have been building it in TS2010. So my guess is it won't. It will work in TS2012, but I am going to modify it more for Ts2012 when I have released this version.

Pulling out of the Grain industry at Queens.

Axe,

One serious problem you will have in 2012 is the treez, they do not work properly in 2012. Speed Treez type treez work OK but it is difficult to find the ones you want for an Aussie layout.

Hi Craig,

Once I have released the TS2010 version, I will update it the best of my ability for TS2012. I plan to swap all the trees with "speed treez". Any good recommendations that are available on the DLS? I don't want to go to a 3rd party site to get content. (except of course Worrybrook) ;)

I will also swap out a number of Natvanders Stations as a couple of these do not show in TS2012. Hopefully it will be repaired by the community at some stage.

Axe,

There are some on the DLS and also some built-in but it's hard to say what may fit your needs. I am currently replacing trees in 2010 with speed trees from PoFig to see what effect they had on frame rates etc. I checked out many speed trees with each others and in most cases his looked the best to me. The only problem is that his are not on the DLS and even on his site they use a naming format that is hard to understand. There is someone putting his trees on the DLS but that person has no permission to do so, therefore I will NOT touch them.

The hardest part is trying to find groups but your good friend "Copy & Paste" maybe able to help out ......... if you ask him nicely :hehe:

When I transferred a layout to 2012 I was very disappointed with Boobless_Eds (think the spelling is correct) trees. Especially as I have about a zillion of them planted over 20 routes all merged together to form my Southlines Route.

Yes, that is something I admit I forget quite often. I've only been working on my route since late 2010, and even then, nothing on the route "today" is original - everything has been reworked to the point that I had a completed route, and I dropped the entire thing, just because I knew I could do better - the quality at one end of the route was drastically different to that at the other, so I decided to take what I learned and more or less "start again" without actually starting from scratch.

Your route is looking good. Very natural. Make a decision to finish it at a certain point, complete it to as close to release as you can, then you can decide to add more later. Take your time.

As I said above, I finished it nicely... then went back and started ripping bits out to upgrade, and now we have the project you see now. Thanks for the kind words (also thanks to Matt for his kind words of encouragement). I have the track plan from the ARTC TOC manual for the Western Line between Bathurst and Lithgow, and that's what I'm building towards at the moment. I'm using Google Maps for the track direction (curves) between "stations", although the landscape and scenery is entirely fictional. Previously, I had built from "Bathurst" to "Orange", but as I said before, I knew I could go one better :).

I'll keep plugging away, I'm just always in awe of the sheer distances you cover. You throw out terms like "100km" like I would "1km", haha! Very impressive, keep it up!
