Could anyone possibly tell me when I can't edit and save the 'trainzoption.txt' file please? All I get is accessed denied but I'm administrator and only user :/

Cheers
Michael

Even if your account is an "administrator" account there are still permissions that won't allow you to replace an edited file with one of your own. When I ran across this, I RIGHT-clicked the top-level Auran installation folder and chose "Properties" from the context menu. Go to 'Security' and take a look at the permissions in the box. You can edit them (being an administrator) so make sure all the boxes are ticked and then OK your way out. You should be asked if you want to propagate the permissions throughout the entire folder. Choose Yes. it will take a bit of time, depending on how much stuff you have there, but once it is done you should be able to edit anything you wish.

Note: if the is a group named "Everyone" in the upper box, then use that one to check the permissions boxes.

Question , what is the benifit or advantage to editing trainzoption.txt'file.
steve
You can edit lots of different thing in it, like screen size, showing kuid number, no startup video, mipmap option etc.

*Edit: Bill beat me to it, he has a fast trigger finger, erm, I mean typing finger :hehe:

A WiP render pic of the Chinese build, for Australia, a CSR Class locomotive's bogey. The first 6 of these CSR Class locomotives were unloaded in Adelaide in February this year. If I had not been working on the SCT/LDP Classes, this locomotive model would have probably have hit Trainz in April. Still lots of details to go on the bogey and the locomotive itself (in my sig pic below):

If some eagle eye spotted the Downer EDi build plate on the bogey beam, this is not correct. I still need some Chinese characters/text, probably saying "build by the little elves in the Black Forrest" or "if you can read this, you are to damn close" or "my mother in law wears army shorts" or something like it to place on it :hehe:.

Will have to try out Google's translator for that. Also BIG thanks to young Mick, he supplied me with some (for Content Creators badly needed) terrific pictures when he had seen and shot (with his camera only) this CSR locomotive somewhere around Ballarat (I think). Without his help, I could not have reached the progress I did so far. Thank you Mick, my mate .

A plea to these often excellent picture takers and picture uploaders:

As most pics on Flickr or other picture web sites are only somewhat 45 degrees side on or angled pictures, which are no good for us CCs. We need full 90 degrees, side on pictures, to scale the locomotive/object/whatever from that, some overhead pics if possible from the roof (from a bridge) plus closeup bogey pictures to show details as there are no drawings, no plans, no nothing available for all late and some not so late models of locomotives. As unfortunately, we can not all travel to all these places where some of these locomotives/rolling stock travel around. I personally would even be willing to pay for some needed good pictures taken.

Cheers

Lovely detail there Vinny, ;)

Yours almost look identical to this drawing I had saved on my disk for a while, the diagram is not specifically suited for any type of locomotive here in Oz as far as I am aware. I'm presuming it's based on the type of diesel/electrics operating in most countries of SE Asia, unable to put my finger on the type of loco as I'm not familiar with their classes. "I'll pass on to you via email ASAP - Imagehell is giving me hell atm."

Vinny, you might already know this, in which case, disregard this info, but the February issue of Railway Digest magazine ran an article on the CSR class by Peter Clark (according to the article the builder's model type is apparently 'SDA1'), which includes a side-elevation line drawing of the class.

Unfortunately, there are no measurements on the drawing, although there is a specifications table included, so it's not really useful as a plan, but it shows the side detail of the bogies very clearly.

If you need it I could scan the drawing and send it to you if you'd like (I still have those W class steam loco drawings to scan too for AD60200 that matter! ;)).

Thank you Marty, yes, I did receive your drawing and I send you a reply. Thank you again, it was very appreciated by me :Y:.

*Edit: @Enkidoh, I have send you a PM, thank you for your offer .

You're most welcome Vinny. :) I'm glad to have helped (I sent the article off to you, so it should be in your email inbox now).

It's funny, when I first read that article and saw the loco I thought "what an ugly hunk of junk!" - but now, it's really growing on me. :D

You should put "From the same factory that brought you Nike Shoes"

A bit off topic, but does anyone know where I can get an L/LZ class loco that works in more recent versions of Trainz?

Hi Froggee. The L class versions on the DLS are indeed legacy content as you know, but after examining them in CMP, the errors that mostly show up for them are simply the old 'Progressive Meshes are no longer supported yadda yadda yadda," and a problem with a shadow texture. From what I'm aware, there is a reasonably straightforward way to convert old style .PM meshes to the modern .IM mesh used by modern versions of Trainz, which would eliminate those annoying errors. I can't remember the exact details though, but I'm pretty sure there are guides found elsewhere on these forums which detail how to do it.

As for the shadow error, if I remember rightly, the way to fix that is to open the file for edit, then open it's Config file, and delete the entry for the shadow texture and recommit it (it's wise to back up the config file first before making any alterations of course). However, I'm not 100% sure, so it would be best to wait and ask for clarification first from someone more experienced in fixing these errors before doing this, as I only have minimal experience fixing faulty content.

It should also go without saying that if you had 2010, all the L class units available do in fact work with 2010 under Compatibility Mode (which is what I use as a stop gap measure). However, as you don't seem to own that version that's not an option for you sadly.
