Are you a rail photographer??

Nightmare on Albion Street!

Here is the old North Eastern signal box (not quite) on Albion Street in Castleford.

And here is the pile of junk (being polite) that replaced it upon retirement. Well done to the idiot that designed(?) it!

20070908cas0001dq7.jpg

Our reason for being there was to see the old nag returning from an afternoon in York. Craig pulled off the better shot, mind you he had a good tutor!

I got the better one earlier at Ulleskelf on the outwards leg.

and we also saw a foreign loco in another livery variant!

Wonderful stuff, wit loads of contrasting traffic.
Been a great summer for steam up these parts.

Ralph

Hi Ralph, are you the Ralph that used to knock around with Dennis Kiernan? (Healey Mills guard/Skipton driver) Maybe it's a small world.

I used to wait on the old Armley Road with my wagon, good job my boss did not read The Railway Magazine as my wagon once made the photo pages, along with me stood on the cab roof photographing a steam special!

John

ps from your shots it looks like I should have seen the Scarborough Spa there this season as the catenary is not too bad!

Ralphs..

'fraid not there John.

I'm an off cum'down 'un.

In my mid 40's .From down Sarf but been up here since '82 bar 2 years in SE London.

The Armley location by the pub overlooking HMP Leeds other side of the line is a very good location.

My next location ought to be Hellifield or Skipton...

Cheers

Ralph

Some more from me at Derby Station.

A trip out to Laidley

Hi all

A couple of shots from a run out to the Laidley Chelsea Flower Festival on Saturday:

First, our trusty steed after dropping off the water wagon/tank car. Our water shortage out here is such that most excursions are using recycled water rather than taking any more from our town supplies.

img008small800x600qi3.jpg

Another of a empty coal train dropping down the hill and through Laidley

img020small800x600vj0.jpg

And finally, another of our trusty steed turning and picking up the water wagon for the run home. You can see the heritage of this loco very clearly, with similar US ATC locos in other countries such as India and South East Asia.

Cheers
Tony

No steam this weekend so my assistant photographer and I went to see a class 40 on the mainline! I don't usually bother going to see diesels but I don't want to see this thread wither so off we went. No time to sort out locations as I only had thirty minutes notice of this train!

First stop, our local station. Outwood, just north of Wakefield.

Class 91 Stealth bomber passing through.

And if anybody saw my 48151 footplate video on Youtube http://youtube.com/watch?v=1191_HGlhPc you would have seen this gentleman swinging the shovel! I bet he didn't sweat as much today!

Rob, thanks for posting, I hope you had a good day. :)

John

ps any more shots from your neck of the woods. We are overrun with second generation DMUs round here and some variety would be nice:p

Guess where BidMod spent Saturday afternoon:

Link to Gallery
The gallery only shows some of the pictures I took, but it includes some of the Ravenglass restored mainline signal box.

Well it looks like the Ravenglass and Eskdale to me but it's not raining!:hehe:

John
It was last time I went   I don't have any photos though, because I didn't want my camera wet. Cumbria sometimes features it's own weather systems.

It was dry this time though -> the rain came at around 8pm, by which time I was back home eating fish and chips! :D

I have to admit it is purely coincidence that Northern Rock was hauling the train I caught - this is my favourite of the engines for it's sheer power (in narrow gauge terms). River Mite was also running after returning to steam earlier this year, but River Esk was in the shed. I'd recommend a visit for anyone who can make it before the end of the pink timetable. I'd also recommend a top-class anorak, because it can get pretty chilly at times, especially in the shade of the trees.

BidMod.

Hi all, I've been a little busy just recently, so haven't donated much, just found some Class 37 photos with different front ends, so have put them on this thread. Shots downwards are from Swansea, Doncaster and York stations circa 1970's and 1980's.

Cheerz. ex-railwayman.
