Are there content creators who do not share their creations

Regarding the release of individual assets , not routes , I know it is tempting to wait until they are completely correct , but we have had a number of creators who died prematurely . Their routes and assets were intended for the Dls , fortunately in one case they were uploaded posthumously , but my advice is to upload , not to hang on to stuff as you never know when the grim reaper will pay you a visit

For me, I reskin/kitbash a lot of locomotives/rolling stock. A majority of them are freeware or from freeware origins, however, the task of trying to gain permissions from the original creator(s) as well as the individual(s) who reskin/kitbashed the original content or made components used in the my/other(s) kitbashes that I worked on is rather...well to be blunt... a pain in the backside to do. I create for my own enjoyment and because I think its neat to do so.

As far as routes go, again, similar situation. Some structures and such I edit, so trying to gain permissions from the author(s) is daunting (cause either A. Difficult to contact. B. Do not allow edits to be redistributed, even on the DLS, and C. Original creator is dead and cannot ELU becomes binding and "legally" cannot redistribute) The other issue is the routes I make are large in size and cannot be uploaded to the DLS or made into a .cdp file that is reliable to install. The 3rd issue is trying to create a list of all the dependencies that are custom made, 3rd party and their sources, DLS, and Payware and their sources....

TLDR, I am lazy and do not want to bother with trying to get permissions as well as deal with the hassel of uploading stuff and maintaining it once it becomes public.

This is a hobby of mine, not a buisness.

I wonder if there are creators who for valid reasons not share their creations on the dls or web site.
I've made a number of (non-prototypical) routes that are of a suitable quality but which I will not upload ... it's too much of a headache trying to ensure that downloaders don't end up with heaps of unknown assets (as I have a lot of external third party assets in my collection).

I sympathize. My policy is to always ensure that any route/session I upload only contains assets that are built-in to the Trainz version the route/session was created for or are available on the DLS. No DLC or third party assets.

I have TRS22PE installed that only contains built-in and DLS assets that I use as a test bed for my routes. If a route runs on TRS22 without any missing non-DLS dependencies then it will be safe to upload.

You can also run a filter test in Content Manager to identify assets in a route/session that are not built in and not on the DLS.
  1. Right click on the route in CM and select the option List Dependencies
  2. Add the following filter lines to the Asset KUID filter that will be displayed
    • On Download Station = False
    • Built-in = False

Yes. I am one but it's usually because I forgot to upload or don't want to deal with support and/or issues with working in others versions of Trainz. I'll usually share my stuff when asked and have no problem with it being used for whatever (aside from someone charging directly for the asset). I'm tired of selfish creators and their attitudes though tbh.

Another problem, perhaps less related to this topic, would be those who upload content to the DLS and don't present it or report it on the Freeware Announcements Page. This means that thousands of assets go undiscovered, and we only discover them if we download a route and they're included in its dependencies. I can assure you that there's a huge amount of content almost hidden in the DLS.

Another reason is Language. If you search in one language , then that is what you get back as the result.
Sometimes I just switch over to thumbnails and do a visual search....you will be surprised as to what you can find.

That is when up loaders decide to put a thumbnail in their content. A lot do not.!!
