Hate to tell you this but that is a long way from Los Angeles. By about 400 miles. This happened at the entrance to the J.R. Davis Yard in Roseville, California

Interesting derailment. I'm glad no one was hurt and no chemicals spilt.

Those freight cars look really, really clean almost like a model.

Did you notice the absent yellow X's that are usually found floating over derailed freight cars?

Conrail started installing roller bearing bolted retainers to hold wheelsets in place ... perhaps they should also install big screws like on HO Kaydee trucks, instead of relying on a 12" pin

Yes! I remember those. It works for the models so why not.

Then you'd need a half-ton screwdriver rising out of the ground between the tracks to tighten it.

Well, it would be kinda hard to make a real switch track out of plastic. :hehe:

On another note, how did that happen? Was a switchman being careless, or did a tornado do it? I'm stumped.
