Prior to the Second World War, the Espee owned a number of electric interurban lines in the western United States. These included the Pacific Electric system in Los Angeles, the East Bay Electric Lines and Northwestern Pacific Railroad around San Francisco, and the Red Electric Lines in Oregon.
