Young People And Railways (how old are you?)

Scientificly and Statisticly speaking [here he goes again], Like the rejection of childish habits, interests are simularly "molted" and sometimes come to be shunned in later years, as an attempt to reject embarassing beginnings. We are the few and the proud that follow our interests, not reject them!

Im 16, and ive always been into trains. my grandfather was a conductor for southern pacific bay area commuter opperations, and other parts of my family, were allready avid rail fans, only natural I turn out like this:hehe: .

I'm 17 now, living the railfan life since I wuz 3 when I heard my first K5LA and my grandpa taught me alot about trains. Bein in high school and all, it's tough bein the only railfan at school. Not to mention that alot of my friends either think it's cool n a way, careless, or think I'm crazy liking a "kid hobby". Well that's not the point, I use to be ashamed to tell people at school about it, but not anymore. Trains and railfanning is in my heart and it'll never leave. You be suprised how many people at school don't know what NS stands for.

Guten tag, los amigos! (A bit of German and Spanish for you.)
I'm 13, turning 14 on the 19th of January. I've been asked quite a lot about why I'm interested in Trainz. The answer is: I don't really know. I've sort of always been fascinated by them. My first proper train trip was on the Spirit of the Outback, from Brisbane to Barcaldine, Queensland, Australia, Southern Hemisphere, Earth, Solar System, Milky Way Galaxy, Universe. (*whew*):hehe:

I openly admit that I did watch Thomas whenever I could (which was almost always) as a young child. I have gone off it now, but the train spirit still lives on. My first Trainz was Trainz Version 1.3, Original Trainz I think, a gift for my tenth birthday from my uncle. And then, a couple of years ago, at the Brisbane RNA Train Show, the Auran team had set up a display giving people the chance to drive a virtual train with a little control stick. That stand was selling Trainz Railroad Simualtor 2006. It was then that I got a new DVD-drive computer to run it. My Trainz world was revolutionised.
Now I hope to get another new computer to install Trainz Simulator 2010 on it.
This is going to be fun.

Me here too, nothing to be ashamed of, I mean really, It was a trained themed show, that aired regularly. Thats almost Un-heard of! What I grew up with were those wooden trains. Brio I believe (im going to have to go dig them out and see).... anyway, Played with those all the time. who else recalls these?

I'm 36. I have liked any kind of huge loud stinky machinery since I was a kid. As an adult (HA!) I like old crap. Old cars, old guitars, old tube amps, vinyl records, old motorcycles, old buildings, and mostly old trucks and old trains. I still dig the modern CSX and NS stuff running around my area these days too. I smoke Alco exhaust in my spare time.

And what do you mean by you "smoke Alco exhaust"?
I huff old loco exhaust. It just doesn't taste right coming out of a bus. All the kids are doing it.

Come on, I just like the smokey old Alcos. I like the planet too, go figure. It's just crusty old trains I dig. I don't even know why I need to explain this.

I guess that's why they call you Motorbreath..... you have motor fumes coming out of your mouth each time you speak!:hehe: Oh, golly, that's hilarious.
I'm joking, really, but that is so funny!

Age??? I can remember sneaking around New England (P'boro UK) sheds on a Sunday morning "cabbing" whatever I could, noting down numbers as I systematically walked down rows of steam locos. I can remember being thrilled at a Royal Scot blasting around the curve at Wellingborough (or Kettering?) station; An A4 accelerating through Walton crossing as it headed North. I can remember the Demo Deltic and the various coloured Brush Type 4's ........ the nudge in my back as my train left P'boro for Kings Cross (behind a Deltic trying to make up time). Much as I loved the steam locos, I also loved the sights and sounds of the early diesels. For all you youngsters that maybe wish that you had been through all the above .......... enjoy what you have now. What with work, girlfriends, marriage, kids, career and ultimate emigration, I totally missed out on the development of the HST units etc.

However, having said that, watching a "6 pack" of CN diesels (est total 25-30,000HP) hauling double containers up a gradient is pretty impressive. Hearing and feeling them before I could see them was pretty exciting. Feeling the heat as they passed beneath me was ............. really hot!

Age? 63. Long Live Trainz

Colin.

Well I'm 22 now but I've been into trains since i could remember. I've had a Lionel since i was 3, and also still have some of the Brio stuff. I was always a Thomas fan. During the time i was about 12 to say 17 or 18, i went away for awhile and was interested in other things (mostly radio control cars, helicopters) and am now coming back into the hobby. Over the summer I went out to Owsso to see Train Fest, and meant some people who do 1.5" scale. I recently joined the Detroit Model Railroad Club in Holly, MI.

I first heard of Trainz last year and got TRS 2006, but am now running 09.

btw if anyone's interested heres a lint to the DMRRC web site which has open house dates and directions http://www.dmrrc.org/

im 15 now, as long as i car remember i was a train lover, i saw only once a steam loco in working action, it was a huge 4-8-2 (at the time i thout it was huge) it was monster, me and my dad (allso the engineer) and my uncle wer in the cab.....seem hissing...the sound, the feel, i will never forget it. (going into a flash-back):hehe: (i apologize for bad spelling)

I am currently thirteen years of age. I've enjoyed railroads since five years of age, and I intend to keep the hobby at the age of sixty-three.

Cheers,
Joshua

Hi All: I'm going to tell my age eventually..But first I want to tell you a story about me..
When I was young lad about Six or so, I was born in small town in Iowa..I remember running down to train station when I would hear the old Wabash(4-6-0)roll in to town..I can still here the Ding,Ding of the crossing signals, and roar of that engine..And would watch the Engineer climb down out of the cab, and always had with him a length of chain..I would watch him throw it around and back in behind the the Center Driver, bring it back out in front and lock it so nobody could take his train while he was in the station getting his orders..
I am 72 and have loved trains all my life..Of course I'm a steam lover..

Bob Cass:) :)

I, too, like old stuff. 70's Rock, Old guitars (particularly Fender), and old trains. I also like old buses, such as the Rouemaster.;)
