Found out by acciendent, i was bored and decided to check for updates, and there it was, reaseached it and it was released for the public today :)

Thanks for the heads up, but I think I'll wait a few days, see what gets posted on the forum (i.e:- what it breaks) then decide whether it's worth updating.
I still remember the problems when Microgates released SP2.

Glad this thread is here....

Glad this thread is here or I would have taken the energy to start one.

I called my computer service and inquired about XP service pack 3 and was advised to wait at least one month prior to installing. Apparently, Micro$oft released XP service pack 3 last month in the OEM market and pull it due to problems. Are these problems fixed? Don't know. But I am not going to be the first to find out.:hehe: Micro$oft beta testers please report your experience. Good luck and be careful out there.

I've read mixed reviews. Some are experiencing problems and others are finding their computer better then before. It seems that this is like playing the lottery right now. Never know if your gonna get lucky and it speeds up your PC or if you lose and it just makes it worse.

I will wait for permission from an Adult till I install this update. Heck I'll even Have THEM install it just so that I don't get the blame if it goes wrong. Time to start saving files just in case tho.

XP SP3 seems okay ...

Hi,

I am, using XP SP3 and it seems to all be woking fine. There are no major user changes except for a 'Remote Desktop Connection' and the ability to let windows attempt to recover your internet connection should it fail.

It must be said that I am NOT running trainz on it because I am using XP inside a virtual pc on Vista.

Overall, I have had no issues and it does seem to be faster !

ONE MAJOR CHANGE : If you use the address bar (in the blue task bar at the bottom) DON'T UPGRADE ! This feature has been removed.

More Details can be found here!

Thanks for the experience report. I am not exactly sure what you mean by "address bar". Is it the shortcuts at the bottom? Or the blue bar at the bottom that shows what programs are currently running?

If it ain't broke, don't fix it. I have 2 machines. One I've had for 5 years and has SP 1, runs perfectly. The other I just installed SP2 since I needed it for a particular app. I won't be installing SP 3 until I really need it for something.

Address Bar Location

The address bar is in the bottom bar that shows what programs are running.

Whilst running XP SP2 you can right click on the bar at the bottom and point to ...

>Toolbars
>Address

Many people find this useful for launching websites straight from the desktop.

It was removed due to 'Legal Reasons'.

I am currently installing XP on a virtual machine to test SP3, and I will give you a sitrep on it soon.

It was removed due to 'Legal Reasons'.

Specifically,
  1. Right click an empty spot on Your taskbar.
  2. From the menu that pops out, hover on Toolbars and left click on Quick Launch.
  3. Right click on an empty spot on your taskbar again and this time hover on Toolbars and left click on Address.

It does have the option to back up your current system in the event that you want to revert.

Thought I'd add a little more good news about SP3. I turned a friend on to it a few months ago when it was still in beta and he said his PC has never run so good.
He thanked me and praised me and is very happy with it.;)

Now, myself, I tend to follow the beliefs of, Xcom,

windows xp sp3

Hello, installed the sp3 patch yesterday, without any problems, installation was straightforward and simple,...address bar is still in the same place and working just as it was before installing,...install took approx. 24 minutes, a slight quickening of response using the mouse to move from programme to programme is noticed.....no malfunction to any programme has been noticed, I am running both TRS2004 and TRS2006 both working ok. if you follow the instructions and restart the comp. after install you should be ok,....kindest regards

Like you oldie, I went to XP sp3 (actually, I was after the 2k3 update, for a college project) and I have so far not had any problems. Not tried much yet and it still looks the same, except the addition of the "Windows Card Space", which seemed to be in XP 64 SP2 as well

What really is the difference? Is Windows XP SP3 an alternative to Vista? If so, I can now restart looking for a new computer when mine breaks.

Well, for those who don't already know, Billy and his bunch installed Vista in all corporate places awhile back and it failed miserably so, they re-installed XP so Microsoft could continue to make millions.
After this failure, he ordered everybody back to their PCs to improve XP and, we now have XP with SP3. A much improved operating system.
(Yes, this is true, btw. Do your research, I did mine and, is why I had my new PC custom built a few months ago with XP Pro installed and NOT Vista.)

:)
