Why can I 'straighten' some assets, but not others?

Hi all :)

Hope everyone had a lovely Christmas!

Okay so, I'm trying to straighten an asset called 'Concrete Wall Spline' to create a wall 2.5m from the track centre. Most object splines, you can straighten with the track straighten tool (considering there isn't one in TS2010 for object splines), but this one doesn't want to straighten. Can anyone suggest what may be wrong?

Regards, Jack :)

Really? I didn't know that you could straighten splines with the track straighten tool...

Probably the wall isn't central between the spline points. In which case you need to staighten on the centreline of the spline not the actual wall.

As in + is the spline point and ======== is the wall ------------ is the centreline.

+ ------------------------- +

An alternative would be not to link multiple spline points together. Use sections of wall with only two spline points as these sections will always then form straight lines. Where you need to add more wall just use the shift button to stop the spline points 'snapping' together so that all of you wall is made up of sections of no more than a start and end spline point

If I'm not mistaken, it seems objects built as tunnel splines can't be straightened. This issue has cropped up with some tunnels I made.

Thanks for the help guys :)

@Malc, I wish it were that easy but the actual concrete wall runs between the spline points, not off-centre of them, so that wouldn't work unfortunately :(

@Andy This would work great however the layout of the retaining wall section includes curves (See below)

@RRSignal + H222 I have also had trouble with that before, but I never thought a Concrete retaining wall would be built as a tunnel type.

I just figured there may have been something in the config, however I don't want to edit the config as that would require permission from the author to re-upload the content if I wanted to release the route. I've gone for an asset called Retaining Wall Slab and it seems to have done the trick. Doesn't quite look as good as the Concrete wall asset I was trying to use but it looks manageable (Not sure about that track base though!) :)

Hi,

I have used either Brick wall or the concrete wall (2) for tunnel linings. And have not encountered a problem, if you are going from a straight section to a curve there are two solutions I have employed: add another spline close to the end so that when adding a bend it will not affect the whole wall, or just break the spline. Sample below.

Hi there,

Thanks for the tips! I've changed the type of walls I am using to AJS Retaining walls instead as they give a nice effect. I've also changed the track I'm using too. Here's a little screenshot. Ready for wires but I'm going to rework those supports. Seems too many there :)
