Who is interested in the SR&RL and Maine 2 footers? Post here.

Ben

Thanks for the offer, if it is a bulk load like wood chips then I have the gondola already set up for that with texture replacement. The same animation could be used for the Pulp Racks which need trees and poles before chipping. I have searched the DLS for the two items by Pencil42. No luck there. I have not checked the TPR site or searched this forum yet, any suggestions.

Peter

My bad, he called it cordwood, not pulpwood. (IIRC, they're basically the same thing) See kuid2:124060:10000:3
An example flatcar set up to carry it is kuid2:124060:15023:2

Ben

I think I found as 'Cordwood'' on his web site, the link appeared to go to the DLS but I couldn't find it there. I'll look again before bothering him.

I see from one post on his forum the that you made the loco for the Kisa 30" line. I had intended to make the rolling stock and diesel next but if it is on your list as done or intended to be done I will look elsewhere. Fascinating little stuff.

I too am interested in the Maine two-foot gauge rolling stock and layouts. As a member of the Ammonoosuc Valley Railway Assn., I take my 'virtual gauge layout' to model railroad shows in New Hampshire (courtesy of the various modular layout clubs), and this would be one of the many 'layouts' that I would thus exhibit at the shows!

I am very interested, but I am new to Trainz so I might not be all that much help. I do have a fair amount of knowledge about the prototype though, I own some books on the subject and an actual Timetable or two. I do have some graphics programs and have done some skinning for some other sims in the past, so I might be good for some of that once I get my feet under me. I also would like to know if anything has been done with the other 2 foot routes from Maine? Since several of the locomotives swapped around with the SR stuff several of the others could be done with some re-skinning.

If you visit http://www.trainzone.co.nz you will find the existing SR&SL locos, Two Forneys by Rich Blake and three Prairies. You are welcome to try re-skinning mine. I don't know about Rich's locos, he may need to give permission for re-skins. If you want to reskin any of the stock for another line, remember that they are in the process of being updated for build 2.9 although I guess the skins will still apply to the updated versions.

Guys

I have reached the stage where I would appreciate offers to beta test my work so far. If any one is interested and have the time to do this, please email me via the forum and I will send you a link. At this stage I have not uploaded anything to the DLS so down loading the SR&RL content won't use up your download quota.

Peter

I, personally am a big fan of the Maine two footers, not necessarily SR&RL, I like the WW&F and the B&SR (B&H) over SR&RL. I have in the past considered building the B&SR and the WW&F and had started a slightly modified Edaville, but the issue is, theres a lack of the slightly larger 2ft forneys which I personally like the most. And i feel that, is somthing trainz needs.

Norfolkwestern.

Perhaps as some of the SR&RL cars originated on the other lines, the SR&RL cars could be rebadged. Regarding the locomotives, do you have details of the larger ones you mention. It is possible that other creators might have a go to make one.

If you want the updated cars to play with, email me for a link.

Peter

I have just uploaded the reworked SR&RL content to the DLS so give it time to work through the system.

Everything has been updated to build 2.9. Note that all the meshes are in mesh libraries, these contain the original textures that have not been changed. Note that the new assets will make the older ones obsolete, using mesh libraries and auto running numbers means that for most freight items you have almost unlimited stock (within reason).

I have NOT created any LODs at this stage.

The locos have not been reworked, just updated to build 2.9.

Passenger cars have passengers, just the one type, if there are others suitable, I will add them.
Freight cars have loads. Again if there are others I could add, please let me know.

All the interiors are 'outside view' which means you will see the car interiors, not a separate interior mesh.
Passenger cars have viewpoints that put you on the deck at either end.
The box car has viewpoints on the top.
Both flat cars have viewpoints on the flat deck.
The three cabooses have viewpoints in the cupola. The seats in the cupolas have to be reworked.

My thanks to Justin and Herbert for their assistance with my numbering problems

I will welcome comments and suggestions. Even criticism (which might be ignored, depends how I feel)

Enjoy..

Peter

...do you have details of the larger ones you mention.

This page has a roster breakdown with some pics and info. http://www.narrowgauge.iform.com.au/srrlloco.html#anchor185463

The thread on this page has a couple of pics, the builders photo of the Eustis engine is of the biggest engines built for the Maine railroads, these were very destructive on the rails though. http://www.mylargescale.com/Community/Forums/tabid/56/aff/23/aft/61835/afv/topic/Default.aspx

Good links, I have found quite a few including the first one but not the second. With the later bogie setup it is possible to make a Forney with proper bogie pivoting/sliding action under the coal hopper/tank.

One problem with all the 0-4-4 locos is that the front drivers are grinding at the flanges all the time, they needed a pilot to ease them around curves, they probably ran better in reverse with the rear bogie to lead the way.

I may just get enthused enough that I would tackle a Forney. I've tried most of the other formats.

narrowgauge... I sent you a PM but I am not sure it went through. I am interested in testing your route if you are still looking for testers.

Let me poke around some and find my books, I have both Moody's "The Maine Two-Footers" and Crittenden's "The Maine Scenic Route". I highly recommend both, and they can be found cheap used on amazon, the second has quite a few scale drawings of engines and cars. I know several of the engines were favored over others, and some of the engines had what amounted to "sister" engines on the other roads. Just looking at what has been made I would say that a larger 0-4-4 Forney and a 2-4-4 Forney would really give us something to work with. If the right engines are picked these could work for the other roads with a simple re-skin.

For example I think the engine pictured on this page was a "sister" more or less to some of the B&SR engines that are now at the Maine NG Museum. http://www.newenglandrailfans.com/apps/photos/photo?photoid=106288597

If you look back, you will see that I stressed 'send me an email' I never think to look for PMs. Anyway, all the content is on the DLS and has been approved, but it may be a while before it is available. I had to make some corrections so I haven't yet uploaded the corrected items to my web site. I will do that now so if you can't wait for the DLS I will send you a link.

Peter

I have PMs turned off so you should have been advised that the message could not be sent.

I have a bunch of plan books coming which I hope will give the details. They were sent by USPS which does not seem to be the fastest freight carrier around. Hopefully they will arrive next week.
