What is Trainz all about?

Watch trains, drive trains, command trains, script trains, create trains, blog trains, talk trains, share trains,...

Why I love Trainz...

As far back as I can remember, I have been fascinated by the power, size and sound of real trains.

When I found the Auran Trainz game, I found a way to satisfy my need to be in control of "simulated" locomotive power.

My 7 year anniversary with Trainz is just around the corner.

Have fun and take a dose of Trainz daily for better health,
Ron

Hello

Trainz is everything the newcomer needs to build their own railroad virtual worlds and sessions, use and edit the existing worlds and sessions and discover the Trainz experience in an unimposing virtual world environment.

So far the main theme emerging seems to be "virtual world" yet for some reason, those words seem to sound a little "shallow". The real world is REAL, whilst the virtual world is merely a poor substitute.. Do people feel that virtual does the Trainz world justice?

Hi Tony,

Well, depends, how 'virtual world' get's interpreted. I'd NOT like to see TRS as something that uses the 'virtual world' model described here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Virtual_world Guess, that was your concern, wasn't it? I'm sure, most of us would agree and don't think in that way. TRS is furthermore a tool used to (re-)build visible, physical things but not to simulate the social part, economy, politics, etc. behind it.

On the other hand, the worlds we build are virtual, too: It's rendering of zeros and ones -> nothing you can touch, right? I don't need the other stuff, social things belong to my real world....

Trainz is the twenty-first century model railroading hobby without the spatial and cost limitations of the old physical hobby. Auran's job is to give us the tools. Our job is to create whatever we want to create using those tools. And of course, have fun doing it.

A 100% agreed

Projected use - User-friendly Scenery Designer for creating virtual UK coastal world of over two centuries ago....... Age of sailings ships, canals, horse drawn transport. (Just in case newcomers are unaware, most can be and have been made in trainz and available on the DS).

Trainz allows the user to build a virtual representation of the physical world that surrounds rails, roads, and other forms of transportation.

I received my first copy of Trainz in August of 2002. It exceeded all expectations, and has continued to do so to this date. It gives one the opportunity to run a route like a real railroad.

Thanks, & good luck,
Joe Folco

Thanks everyone. So far the main theme emerging seems to be "virtual world" yet for some reason, those words seem to sound a little "shallow". The real world is REAL, whilst the virtual world is merely a poor substitute.. Do people feel that virtual does the Trainz world justice?

With every new edition of Trainz, the difference between REAL and virtual diminishes. Obviously we are deprived of touch and smell and rely on sight and sound for our perception of the virtual world, but with stereo sounds and improved graphics, it is easy to get immersed in the virtual world and believe it is REAL.

DaveW :) .

Trainz let's you explore other countries and travel in time without leaving your computer.

It let's you recreate (model) historical scenes to get a better understanding of how things relate to each other.

It allows you to own your own copy of an animated horse drawn wagon for a very reasonable price.

Trainz is my replacement for the real world. There i can make my own worlds and ride through them. It's not just a virtual world, it's a way to see real trains in fake worlds.

The reason that I Like trainz is because it's completely open and not open-ended. You can create anything. Locomotives routes senaireos etc.

The I portal included in trainz is like the channel tunnel. It links 2 or more routes together.

P.S. I might have gone over the limit.

I like Trainz because it is excellent for creating routes real or fictional, perfect for simulator and model railway building aswell among loads of things. Also it is the easiest to use.

(sorry for over the 25 limit)

I've always loved messing with prototype track plans & working out how they were operated & signaled. Trainz (When I can make it work. TC3 ordered.) lets me build & operate complex diagrams & is the next best thing to replace the model railways I've had to sell due to lack of space. The content available on the DLS is a big bonus. If only All the dependencies were on there. And everything worked as it should. More regular updates would be welcome & perhaps everyone should have to get a first class download ticket to fund it properly????
I'm new here but not sure I have the time to debug Trainz. I want to be building layouts & driving them. Not fighting fatel errors or chasing missing KUID's Mr Hillman. (Thats about 25 words isn't it...........)

I love Trainz because...

it allows me to create and operate an unlimited amount of railroading in a very limited amount of space.

Trainz, for me, is a chance to take control of my model railroad when it is 100 degrees out in the train room.

Thanks everyone. So far the main theme emerging seems to be "virtual world" yet for some reason, those words seem to sound a little "shallow". The real world is REAL, whilst the virtual world is merely a poor substitute.. Do people feel that virtual does the Trainz world justice?

Mike. Comments are fine - and you can have multiple attempts in the one post as well if you like. :)
Not a poor substitute really. In the case of my local railway (Sunderland to Penshaw) a large part of it was reopened in 2002 but all the old stations, signals etc were totally swept away.Trainz offers me the chance to recreate it more or less as I remember it.So, in a sense it is better than the real thing..:p
