Hey folks,

with only the finishing touches remaining to add...

We're sure this loco needs no introduction, so just for fun we've decided to run a poll. Who could it be now? :hehe:

Be sure to keep an eye on the Trainz Newsletter for more details!

Coor should have made that a bit harder for us to guess :D. Big question now your going to face is Bathtubs and semis?.

Rob

Good looking model but I think LMS_MAN has beaten you to it, see his Trainz Britannia Locomotive listings in the payware section of this forum. It's the first type in his list.

I have no idea which one it is, but it is nice to see that you all are still doing this kind of content for us.

That being true, but I have a feeling that if we Brits where presented a choice of American Pacific class locos when the Blue Comet was being created we'd come unstuck or at least I would.

Looking at bit closer at the model, Rob, have you left a gap in the running boards underneath the boiler to aid in access to the motion that is between the frames? If so further question will you be adding the big ends in the for the middle cylinders? Go on you know you want to :D.

Rob

Certainly shows that a lot of people who vote in polls have no idea about British locos.

Paul

My guess is that some people are mis-interpreting the poll as 'what should we do after this?' and not 'what is this a picture of?'.

I mean, I don't see how anyone could mistake the screenshot for some of the options, there's no Bulleid-Firth-Brown wheels, it's not a 4-6-0 and it doesn't have german-style smoke deflectors... It really shouldn't be a tough decision, so I don't see how many people can get it so obviously wrong... Unless they're misunderstanding the question :)

Agreed, I wouldn't have recognised the Blue Comet, or even a G3.

I do like to think I'd have considered it a challenge and tried to find out rather than voting blindly though :)

Awwwwweeeesooommeee!

Although I do wish it was a smaller locomotive. We got quite a few big passenger ones thnaks to S&C :)

I don't know this British loco....

That's correct.

I have no idea what this loco is called. Being reluctant to vote in the poll to spare myself embarrassment.

Dear UK Trainzers, please tell those of us in the Colonies what it is. (PS... we love the tea you send us.:) )

Thanks and have fun,:)

It's a 'Princess Coronation', although they ran in 3 seperate forms -

'Bathtubs' that were fully streamlined, 'semi-streamlined' where the fairing is removed, but the boiler still slopes gently at the front, and the un-streamlined form that is shown in the image in this thread.

They were/are also referred to as Duchess and sometimes 'City' classes, as many are named in the form of 'Duchess of ....' and 'City of ...'. 'Coronation' was the name of the first of the class.

It's to be hoped that Auran are making all of the Forms and Liveries, although that will be quite a task - Red/Gold LMS, and Blue/Gold LMS bathtubs, red LMS and black LMS semi and un-streamlined, red BR, green BR, blue BR and black BR semis and un-streamlined. All told that's 8 versions that would need to be done - and I've probably forgotten some (it wouldn't surprise me if someone said that BR tried painting one apple green, for example).

Edit:

I knew I'd missed something, at very least the red BR, green BR and black BR variants also had sub-variants, there were multiple lining forms, and early/late crests, also all 3 of those liveries were seen with and without cab-side yellow-stripes. I suspect the 'blue BR' didn't have much variation, since the 'express blue' steam livery was fairly short-lived.

Edit #2:

A fourth 3d form for them exists too, #6229 was sent to the US on tour, and was modified for the purpose, receiving a US-style headlight and bell:

I think this quote describes them rather well

'There are not enough superlatives in the English language
to describe a Princess Coronation locomotive in full cry.
We shall never see their like again'.

You also missed the two Ivatt versions with the different lower cab sides and that some of the de-streamlined locos were fitted with normal round smokeboxes.

Guilty! Voted before scrolling down....:p Of course, 44 total votes so far isn't really a "lot of people"...

The model looks lovely, and although I've never meet a steam locomotive I didn't like, since I hail from the New World, I'd have absolutely no clue about the locomotive's identity.

But then, as a related article on The Victorian Web points out via a George Bernard Shaw quote -- the U.S. and Great Britain are sometimes "two nations separated by a common ocean and a common language". :)

I don't know what it is other then it looks cool.

I'll download it and run it in places it's never been in the real world because I'm crazy and like to do things like that.:hehe:

I only got it right because I live in Liverpool, and they used to visit Liverpool back in the day, they looked superb in red and black...:udrool:

Unfortunatly I'm not old enough to remember them grace Lime Street Station, however they were fantastic engines, better than the plastic rubbish of today, these are my favourites along with GWR locomotives...:mop:
