What Happened?

Alco Spoken Here
As of late I have come to realize what has become of our community. This community, which was once based on respect and kindness has begun to lose that basis. Gimme pigs, payware hators, people who ask stupid questions multiple times. I have heard the same disrespectful words over and over again for too long. "Freeware or payware?" "Its payware so it sucks." Where did you get that locomotive, I want it." <- on the JR screenshots thread especially. "Can you send me this?" "Can you send me that?" No respect. No please or "thank you for creating content that expands our game." The tbere are the meaningless threads, over and over again by the same people:"Does this work in TS12?" "This has errors. Fix it." etc... This kind of stuff gets a lot of the forums vetrans annoyed or angry, and that is where we start to loose the kindness that was once seen on be forums. I have seen some people jump on others for asking simple questions, etc... Sure the forum has its good parts, but it, at least in my eyes, won't be the same.

I too have noticed that things have taken a serious nose dive.

Perhaps with the mods's new marching orders that nose dive will be arrested.

Indeed, it seems that we have the 70's CB attitudes prevalent.... hiding behind a keyboard and hiding behind a mic is the same thing.

What people also need to remember is this:

1. Whiz off a payware creator, and the prices can go up in direct proportion to the irritation suffered.

2. Freewares creators can just quit creating or become payware creators. They only work for themselves, they are not paid members of Auran or N3V.

For some people, maturity is not always directly correlated to age.
This X 1,000.

My wife worked CS for Blizzard Entertainment for a number of years, and let me assure you I can personally attest to this being pure, 100% unassailable fact.

Look, in any forum dealing with a subject that has fans of all ages, you're going to have to expect a wide range of personalities, be it mature, immature, selfish, givers & takers, ass-holes, glory hounds, passive, aggressive, friendly, good spellers & bad spellers, perfectionists & slobs, jokers & "all-business" types (people with a sense of humor and those with none), old crabs and young punks, people with manners and those who were never taught good manners,---- just a multitude of types. Yeah, it makes some of us angry because we expect everyone to behave like WE do. But it ain't gonna happen folks.

I expect the Moderators have their hands full sometimes, and I think they do use good judgement 99 percent of the time, and are being quite flexible with certain people (I hope not me LOL) because they realize that everyone is different.

Yeah, I still got that "one nerve left" but it's still hanging in there and as long as it does, I'll still enjoy reading these forums and creating my barely useable assets.

I don't think having two different forums based on age is the right way to go. There are some 14 year olds who have better manners than say someone over 50, but that's life and splitting everyone up isn't going to solve a lot of problems.

Yes, the forums are changing and there's a few (lot) of annoying newbies coming on board, but, hey, we have an IGNORE LIST so use it! Mine's getting bigger all the time!

Cheers,

Dave

Nick,

This is absolutely true. It may not seem like it on here, but it seems I am the more mature of my age group (14 y/o). Luckily for me, I was raised right and have the mentality of those who are older than me. Though it may not seem like it, I am just nice to people who are nice to me. If you treat me with respect, you can sure as hell expect me to respect you.

True,

I have been thru a war, military career, father of 7, and work in satellite communications....

But I act like a 20yr mad man... :)

Maybe a mad man with a box............

So yeah, an over 50 forum too would be evil.

The best thing that can be done is to present a unified front. Once people know that we all try (hey, we are all individuals here, there is going to be some debates and differences of opinion) to get along here and ass-hattery is not tolerated....they will have no choices other than to shape up or hit the bricks.

I have often wondered if there should be a newbies forum with stickies explaining the diferences between payware creators, freeware creators, what is considered rude, what is "Gimmie pig" behaviour, etc..... something short, like maybe 10 stickies or less, so people have some sort of idea how to fit into the Trainz Community without a lot of problems. Those who sign up would be directed to this sub forum the first time they access the forums, then afterwards every other time they would just go straight to the forums..

That is a somewhat clever idea, as on another forum, I'm on, they have a section that specifically outlines some of those things in detail ('"Gimmie Pig" in specific) and what will occur if one of those things are mistreaded or broken. However, it is just a section on the regular forum (so they might not read or notice it). I seriously would consider adding this type of thing, where these stickies are the first thing you see when you sign up. You might be on to something Chris...

It would be like terms and conditions, they would just skip past it,
Cheers,
Mike

Probably, but then the mods could drop a hammer on them and say "It was in the section that you skipped when you first signed up...." , a nice C.Y.A.
