Warning: If you have installed MWG3.0...

Hi guys,

A friendly heads-up.

If you have recently installed Midwest Grain 3.0, please look for this asset Grid,<kuid:-1:16270> and delete the 1 entry in the config obsolete table.
This was a modded asset that JR used during the route's production and it erroneously obsoletes the "stock" grid texture.

Any route modified and saved since the installation of MWG3.0 will now look for this modded asset which will cause an "unknown dependency" error during distribution. To fix this simply open the route(s) config file and replace
<kuid:-1:16270> with
<kuid:-1:6270>
from the kuid table.

Cheerio,
Nicholas

Thank you for the head's up!

I noticed that too while in editing my own route, but actually I find the grid color to be better for work with topographic images.

Nicholas,

I tried your fix, but it seems to have only half-worked. I deleted the line in the obsolete table of the config, which now brings back the original grid if I make a new route. However, all of my routes that ended up with the blue grid still have them. I deleted the extra one in all of their configs, then saved and committed the file. Yet when I open up the route, the blue is still there. Then, if I edit the route and save it, I end up with both grid textures in the kuid list. Have you had luck getting the old grid back?
While I don't mind the new grid colors, I'm having issues with assets "disappearing" on me. As soon as I hide the grid texture and go to the blue-bottomless see-through grid, all objects come back. This doesn't happen all the time, but I'm attesting it to this new grid color.

In the JR kuid (assuming that's the -1:16270), I removed the line in the config under config obsolete table that said kuid -1:6270 (the original). I assume that line I removed is what gave the new grid kuid (16270) the right to over-write/replace the old grid kuid (6270). After I did this, the old grid kuid icon went from being the outdated asset purple icon back to being a computer/installed asset icon.
Then in each of the routes that I have created or edited since installing MWG 3.0, I went into the config file and deleted the 1 in 16270, leaving 6270 as the first kuid in the listing of kuids. I saved the .txt file and then committed the asset, so the route should then be looking for kuid -1:6270 instead of the new JR grid kuid. However, once the route is loaded, it's obviously still using the new JR grid.

I don't quite understand you, but something tells me you're not following the two simple steps and making things more complicated than necessary.

look for this asset Grid,<kuid:-1:16270> and delete the 1 entry in the config obsolete table.

^ by this I meant delete the single entry in the obsolete table, not delete the 1 from 16270 in the obsolete table.

open the route(s) config file and replace
<kuid:-1:16270> with
<kuid:-1:6270>
from the kuid table.

No, I did as you just said. I deleted the entire line (1 entry) in the obsolete table in kuid:-1:16270.
Then in the routes, I replaced 16720 with 6720.
Trainz is qwirky - who knows why this isn't working on my install. Perhaps I will have a few routes with the new grid texture - can't change those ones. Good news is that all new routes I create now use the old grid texture!

Changing entries in the kuid-table of a map doesn't change which assets the map is using. The information used by trainz for displaying the map is hidden in the other files of the map (like .gnd, .obs, .trk). The kuid-table is used by the Content Manager to find the dependencies.

I have noticed that the hacked JR grid can be "picked", unlike the stock grid texture. If one can somehow make the stock grid texture "pick-able", then it would be a cinch to simply Replace Assets the two.

Peter, so you're saying there's not much one can do to change the grid once it's been "established"? Not the end of the world, people will just have to have MWG 3 to keep from having a missing dep on the routes people distribute. Although, if one doesn't, I don't know if that's something you could just "delete missing asset" to and get away with...

Sounds like you might have a way to correct this, although I'm ignorant as to what "picking" is in this sense.
