Warm Reboot Problem

Old Hand
A few months back I bought myself a new computer, and have been enjoying the new and improved performance. I have run into an odd problem however involving my raided hard drives and windows xp. If I try to do a "warm" reboot such as those requested by some software updates, the system will not reboot properly and the monitor screen will come up black, although I can hear windows opening in the background. I then have to turn the machine off and reboot again and I get the check disk screen which runs to correct "errors", and then after XP opens, the raid system runs a system check to make sure both disks are the same, which takes several hours and reduces performance a bit. In the end, everything is fine, as long as I remember not to do or allow a warm reboot.

I called my service guy, who had assembled the computer (a good outfit...I have been dealing with them for 15 years or more) and his response was "Oh yeah, it does that to me too on my machine". He did however promise me he would have a chat with Intel and see what he could find out.

I would be curious to know if anyone else had run into this problem, and if you had found a solution. I'll copy part of my dxdiag specs below.

Hi George,

In the control panel, are there any yellow bangs (exclamation marks)?
Are there any BIOS or driver updates available for your board? BIOS and onboard drivers would come from Intel.com (work -> support & downloads); NVIDIA driver would come from nvidia.com.

Good luck, those issues can be frustrating to work through....

Don't see anything like that. The drivers should all have been checked for updates in May.

It's not a major problem, more like a nuisance. Just curious if anyone else had experienced anything similar.

Hi gfisher,

I did have some problems like that some time ago when I was running my disks as a Raid array. I reconstructed the whole system and configured my raid disks as separate ide drives, then no more problems.

Cheers,
