I want to build my best Trainz gaming machine yet.

Here are the build sheet specs of what I have been Trainzing on since the fall of 2001. I took a machine originally built in 2009 and upgraded it. It still is not that great to play TANE on with heavy 3d content as a route with 300,000 plus three-D tall hemlock trees on it. This following PC is my home office PC also.

Here is the following amazon-supplied hardware I propose to swap out in that low-grade PC I have hooked to the television to make a high-quality gamer of. I want to keep the micro-ATX case to fit my living room entertainment rack nicely and also because this case has a custom builder badge permanently attached to it. The new proposed gaming card is just under $600 and has a high benchmark (30,000+) according to https://www.videocardbenchmark.net/ In contrast, the ZOTAC GAMING GeForce GTX 1650 OC 4GB I have in my home office PC now only has a paltry benchmark of 7876 and I paid about $327 for the damned thing three years ago. The ZOTAC Gaming GeForce RTX 4070 Super Twin Edge OC seems like a lot of SFF card for the money at just under 600 bucks a copy.

Microsoft System Builder | Windоws 11 Home | Intended use for new systems | Install on a new PC | Branded by Microsoft $119.99

Corsair Dual SSD Mounting Bracket (3.5” Internal Drive Bay to 2.5", Easy Installation) Black $4.99

Samsung 870 EVO SATA III SSD 1TB 2.5” Internal Solid State Drive, Upgrade PC or Laptop Memory and Storage for IT Pros, Creators, Everyday Users, MZ-77E1T0B/AM $99.99

Crucial Pro DDR5 RAM 32GB Kit (2x16GB) CL36 6000MHz, Overclocking Desktop Gaming Memory, Intel XMP 3.0 & AMD Expo Compatible – Black CP2K16G60C36U5B $99.99

MSI PRO B650M-P ProSeries Motherboard (AMD Ryzen 8000/7000, AM5, DDR5, PCIe 4.0, M.2, SATA 6Gb/s, USB 3.2 Gen 2, HDMI/DP, 2.5Gbps LAN, mATX) $109.99

ZOTAC Gaming GeForce RTX 4070 Super Twin Edge OC DLSS 3 12GB GDDR6X 192-bit 21 Gbps PCIE 4.0 Compact Gaming Graphics Card, IceStorm 2.0 Advanced Cooling, Spectra RGB Lighting, ZT-D40720H-10M $594.97

AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D 8-Core, 16-Thread Desktop Processor $366.01

Total Parts Cost Projected for the micro-ATX upgrade with free shipping and tax: $1,493.65

Question: Is another $1,500 a big waste of money in off-the-shelf parts to throw at a PC to play Trainz, American Truck Simulator and Microsoft Flight Simulator X Deluxe upon?
The existing PSU at 550W should still be plenty. The RTX 4070 Super is rated at only 220W. It takes up two mobo slots. I won't have an optical drive built in this computer. I use an external one that hooks up via USB.

Just for comparison Have a look at https://www.dellrefurbished.com/ite...000327/dell-precision-5820-tower-no-os/1.html especially the video card. It's considerably more powerful than either of your two machines and if you really need an RTX 4070 at a later date you can just drop it in.

https://www.videocardbenchmark.net/gpu_list.php I find a 16,000 3D score quite reasonable for Trainz.

Also you can buy windows licenses for around $30 check tom's hardware, but you need to download the operating system from Microsoft. A six core xeon might need a something more than home edition.

I already have Windows 10 Home on USB I bought from https://softwarepal.co.uk/terms-conditions/ in 2001 with a product key for one OEM install on my home office machine.

@JonMyrlennBailey - If you're going to go with a B650 Motherboard, a better choice would be the Aorus Elite b650M by Gigabyte. Much better specs than the MSI board in your list.

Gigabyte quality is also much better, and their boards are built with their Ultra Durable quality spec.
The Gigabyte board I have, is 10 years old and still running like new. ☺️

How about the less opulent K model? I don't need onboard wi-fi or Bluetooth.

@JonMyrlennBailey >Then, we have to leave the realm of gaming motherboards and go for a plain old everyday board like the GIGABYTE B650M DS3H - Amazon link.

Gigabyte spec page B650M H (rev. 1.0)

or the K version, Amazon GIGABYTE B650M K, which is a bit less money.

I don't need lights on my board also. I can buy this product key for about 10 bucks:

What lights @JonMyrlennBailey ? Are you talking about the dark pink lighting in the demo videos? That's just external marketing lighting to make the board appeal to gamers, LOL.
As far as I know, no motherboards come with built in effects lighting. You have add that stuff via an RGB controller system.

I had that on my old MSI motherboard and disabled it after a few minutes. I am more interested in system performance and less about flashy lights and bling.
