Union Pacific Screenshots Thread

Yes I know this is completely unrealistic-
UP Challenger pulling the blue comet to pick up tourists at Glacier Peak:

3950, EFDTC Union class (ex Union Pacific) waits for clearance to head out to the transfer station with its long load of coal. This class of locomotive began life as a UP Challenger, but now well past her prime she finds a new life as a heavy mallet working the mine tracks in Brazil. Regauged to 3'6", she dwarfs the other locomotives on the line.

Easing onto the trestle, 3950 starts to pick up a bit of speed. Most of her short, but heavy train is up over the grade at the back of the station. Once she's across this, it's highball all the way to the transfer station. The railroad has several such bridges, all recently reinforced with steel stringers to hold this massive beast.

Starting the climb up Hill 101, the Union class shows exactly why the EFDTC bought three of these aging engines. Perviously, it took no less than three texas type locomotives to tackle this grade. Even the new diesel locomotives can't handle this 3% grade without some help, yet the Unions (there are 3) can do it without missing a beat.

Halfway up the hill, and already pushing a steady fourty MPH, 3950 hammers the rails mercilessly. The big Unions are hard on the light track, prompting the railroad to start measures to rebuild much of it to a heavier weight. For now, however, there's only a few places such as outside Cristina where these beasts can really stretch their legs and show how built for speed they really are.

More pics coming, and yes, you're not seeing things. That IS a narrow gauge Challenger.

Hert & Chris, Great shots!:D

magickmaker, Very unique, nice shots too:) . I have seen the effects a DD40AX had on light rail, going by that I could only imagine if the NG rail didnt collapse immediately, it would be as flat as a butter knife after the first pass that Challenger made on it:hehe: ...neat idea though;) .

@Tyler: For Metric gauge, it is. That's actually 3'6" which is a tad over Metric.

You know, I originally started bugging Barn about that as a joke...but looking back it's a really nice well proportioned locomotive. So, it actually works as a Narrow Gauge. The story is also somewhat plausible, since EFDTC did have full size Texas and Santa-Fe locomotives that were Narrow Gauged. Not sure where they got them, if they were new or used though.

If you 're interested in that loco, just ask Barn about it in payware. If it gets enough attention he may give it its own page, but it's the "EFDTC Union" class locomotive.

I'm working on regauging one of the stock routes for it, namely that mining route from UTC. (Robe I think) Shame that trainz mapping program that lets you change track instantly doesn't work with 2010.

Magic, absolutly Magic !!!

Yes in TS2010 you can replace track instantly with 3ft 6, 3 mouse strokes and its done

Nice job you have done there, even I wasnt sure about a NG Challenger, but it works, and works well, the screenies prove that !!!

apparently Robe won't let me replace the track, so I'm looking at doing it by hand :(

In the short term, I may just build a short route for the Union class. Lord knows that shouldn't be too hard. Now to find a NG Texas and Santa Fe...

So that challenger is 3 foot? or 3 ft 6in?

Thanks Chris!:)

Yes, my computer handles TS2009 without a hitch:D , I have my own business on the side doing CGI work, my computer and the software I use to do that way exceeds what it takes to run Trainz;) .

My all time favorite Trainz UP steamer...

Who's mesh is that with the patched SD40? I want to say joram24 due to the smoke effects, but want to say something else due to the radiator grills.

Cheers,
Joshua
