My guess, - and it's only a guess, - that in some parts of the old GWR system it wouldn't have happened at all and the SW boards would have stayed in place until Beeching shut them down.Sorry to be a pain folks. I've tried the internet but come up with nothing. GWR used SW whistle boards but what I'm interested in finding out is when or if the Western region replaced them with the more modern circular boards?
Many thanks again,
Innis
There were two types of round "W" disc - the earlier ones (without any border) were certainly widespread mid-70s but they were introduced as far back as 1965 and were the standard from 1965. The grey, blue or red border was an 80s invention I think, but I don't know exactly when.Sorry to be a pain folks. I've tried the internet but come up with nothing. Fantastic Annie. Now that's a railway sceneBecause Imgur is banjaxed for UK Trainz folk I'm going to start reposting some of my better screenshots from a year or more ago.
These are some snaps I took at Gwinear Road on the Cornish Mainline. This is my WIP created with the intent of making the Cornish Mainline between Penzance and Camborne look like it really is the late 1920s/early 1930s.
