ugly trains

Interestingly enough, almost all the locomotives posted so far I do not find ugly. Maybe it's just me. I mean, this is coming from a guy who likes the Pacer. And the Gremlin. And the Pinto. Anyway, to reference some previous posts, I actually really like gensets, I think the BL20GH is awesome, and most of the other locos listed I kind of like. Except for that post-accident-traumatized RS-3. And the Talgo 350 is pretty bad too.

HOWEVER, there is one locomotive in particular that I never understood why it was considered by many to be the most beautiful locomotive ever built. It's the Alco PA. I find it to be the ugliest locomotive I have ever seen. The nose is just TOO LONG! I prefer the nice, small Bulldog nose of the F and E units.

I love the Gremlin, but the Pacer? That's just you, even if Goofy drove one in the movie.:D
As for the Pinto, I want to get one and put a real engine in it, then paint it black with red flames in the back so it looks like a hot rod.:hehe:

Even the odd looking engines had a reason, and they do add character to the layout.

:cool:Claude

There was a B&O RR exposition, way back, in the wayback days, when RR's were thought to be totally unsafe, reckless, and should be banned for their dangerosity...the B&O gave a demonstraton of a horse powered freight car, with a horse harnessed on a stationary treadmill, visible in a cut away portion, inside the car. The car traveled a couple dozen feet, sqreeched, clanked, and came to a clattering halt as something busted in the drive train...spectators laughed at the new fangled contraption, walked away and said: "This RR thingy is a buch of hoohaa, it will never pan out "! This was back in the "Canal" period 1790-1815, an interesting era indeed....chock full of ugly engines and wierd contraptions...who else out there loves RR history ? I'm re-creating the Allegheny Portage Incline Plane Railway system on the Horseshoe Curve route.

That is one of my all time favorites!
Can't beat IC's art deco taste mm!
That is a great looking train.
Want to know ugly?
Monorail's and alternate garbage. Stuff like in Seattle and Disneyland and so forth...things that aren't even trains...

Don't get me started and i don't even know why this was even developed.

Seriously, "it" looks like a GP38 on steroids and tried to blend in, but 1 major flaw? Anyone?

Metro North ordered these hunks of junk from Brookfield. Classified BL20GH.
Again these belong in the scrapyard if you ask me.
@ David111767, yes the horns are on the long hood.

No the Paint scheme is a flaw because one even though it's in a New Haven Scheme it doesn't suit the locomotive very well (at all actually).

Obviously you have not seen other paint schemes in the world...

This style is quite standard in australia, and it suits all locos...

To be honest i like the new haven livery and on this loco it looks great:)

Oh I'm sorry and actually I like Australian trains. Plus New Haven was a great railroad along with Pennsylvania and New York Central until the merger time.
