That's the Talgo 350 - I rode one when I went to Spain and they are actually very decent trains. The loco is shaped like that because its streamlined, so its not its fault for being ugly! :p

I don't mind the 6-axle gensets and the 4-axle ones with GE trucks. I actually kind of like them. There are a few other 4-axles that I can stand. Most are ugly, like the NRE ones.

The one at the top of this page with the eye patch isn't ugly, it just needs new paint. Its a CF7, which equals cool not ugly (but a F7 looks better.)

While browsing around a database of geared locomotives, I found this:

The strangest thing is it's not an inclined locomotive.

Cheerio,
John

I think looks are not as important as functionality, I often think, "As long as it does it's job, it's good." And that is probably the philosiphy here,

And here.

Ah, close David, but not quite.

It's actually a 2-Do-2 (the four centre motor axles are actually rigidly mounted in the wheelbase, like a steam locomotive, with a small two axled, unpowered bogie mounted at each end.)

Incidientally, it's a WAGR (Western Australian Government Railways) X class diesel-electric for those who were wondering, and they were a real headache for their owner. They still had their own perculiar charm though. :p
