I have just downloaded gmax (know idea on how to use it yet) and have two questions.

1.Do I need to worry about scale. and if so what do I need to do??

2.If one day I finish a model, how do I get it into trainz??
(sorry if these have been posted before)

Thanks for any help!!!!!!:) :) :)

As you are just starting I suggest you start in Blender and save yourself a lot of headaches.

Start here

http://en.wikibooks.org/wiki/Trainz

under content creation.

Yes – off course you have to take care about the scale. I normally into the menu “Customize” than “Preference” to set the System Scale into Millimetres. But you also can stick an the pre adjusted metres. Changing the scale later on, could make problems, especially if you have texture adjusted at the mesh.
But WISTLEHEAD is right, just do the tutorials – that’s the best and it even should describe you, how to export the data from Gmax to be imported into TRS later on.
Note, you will have to download and to install the “Trainz Content Creation Pack” from

http://www.auran.com/trainz/contentcreation.htm

Install it and work with this one, as this contains the tools, you need to export your creations – it will start gmax internally as well.

Wish you good luck and may you are soon coming up with such creations :-)

Bradcat,

Your two little (in words) questions would require someone to write a book on each to answer them for you. It reminds me of Yahoo Answers where people ask up to ten times a day "How do I design a web page?" Huge books have been written on that subject yet they still don't cover anything.

And yes, your questions have been asked on the Trainz forums dozens of times before. Had you used the search box above I'm sure you would have seen hundreds af answers similar to John Whelan's comment above, so it surprises me that you're even considering gMax in the first place.

If you go to the Trainz Resources Directory and visit the tutorials section, you will see that the Blender tutorials outnumber gMax 100 to 1. To learn any program you must have access to good tutorials and other reference material. Blender wins in this department by a country mile.

Blender is an on-going project with regular updates. gMax on the other hand hasn't been updated for 5 years and it's no longer supported by its distributor Autodesk. Its ability to work with MS Vista is also questionable.
