Tunnels from scratch - help, please!

I am trying to construct a tunnel, but I do not want to be constrained to the ones available as track elements. I have examined the way tunnels are constructed in the Hawes Junction layout, but I cannot see how they work. The elements I can see are a spline-less UK tunnel mouth, a tunnel dummy spline, a grass plane and track. There appear to be no splines in the tunnel itself. How is it constructed, and how does one make this lot go through the hill? I have fiddled about with other elements, but whenever I raise the topography, it obstructs the tunnel mouth. It looks as if it needs some sort of anchor at the top of the tunnel mouth so that the tunnel can actually pass through it. Any suggestions as to what I am doing wrong will be gratefully received while I still possess some hair!

Sounds like you need a "dighole"!

I generally use the AJS Dighole, which makes a hole in the terrain so you can thread your tracks and tunnel lining splines through. Unless you are working on 0, 90, 180, or 270, degree axes, you will to need to fiddle around covering up parts of the hole left by the dighole using grass planes, wingwalls, trees etc.

Many thanks to both of you. I shall try again later, and keep you informed as to whether or not I have cancelled my order for a wig...
