TUME’s Simulation of “The Milwaukee Road”

Well I've decided to completely scrap the version mentioned above and begin all over again. This time, I've choosen to do things differently:
1. All sidings are based on the length of a 100-car coal train, with an EF-1 set leading the train, and three Port Ogden & Northern AC4400CWs, two on the front, one of the rear.
2. The grades will be kept as close as possible to the original grades.
3. The route will only be double-tracked between Haughan and Henderson.
I've also have problems with the textures of the route whenever I merge the route or import from a previous version of Trainz. At randomly different locations, the textures on the ground are missing. Why that is, I have no idea.

Hi Tume and other Guru's here....

Where do I start ..... hmmm - Have been away from Trainz 2010 for awhile ( 2 years ) Just bought TS12..

I had Most of my content on a Old Hard Drive and Crashed .... Gerrrr

I did find and old backup of a Session and Route ... for pictures below.... unfortunately ... Most of my assets where lost.... Damn..... gerrr

Anyway is there away to Import the Avery Drexel Route from my PAID copy ....into TS2012 ... when I try to archive and bring into ts12 ...

get message can't import built in content .....gerrrrr

I need some help here and some direction as - can't you import all assets ...into ts12 from earlier version ts10 and ts09

Some eye candy ...that I did ....wnt to continue with this Project in TS12 ..... :)

BRAVO, Uwe.

Just viewed your Bitterroot video. My grandfather was a brakeman and, later, conductor out of Spokane. He told of once riding a runaway freight down the west slope -- happily they stayed on the rails. When I was seven he took me with him on a run with the Olympian Hi (Train 6) to Deer Lodge. We overnighted there and brought #5 back over to Spokane next day. He also ran them over to "the Coast," Tacoma and Seattle.

Thank you for all your work -- some of your Hiawatha equipment still sees use on my Fond du Lac branch.

Best wishes,

:B~)

Hallo,

I am sorry for your hard-drive-disaster.
Such things really sucks!!!!
But technical stuff fails as everything does from time to time.
I use more than three USB-hard drives to mirror my whole files. This includes backups from my routes which I copy out from the trainz data base by using the edit in explorer function as well as my whole source files from my gmax mesh and texture creations. These USB-hard drives are stored at three different locations – two of it out of my flat just in case a fire burns down the house, I still have the other two mirrors left. In such a case I would just loose some weeks of work which is nothing in comparison to the loose of my work from 2004 until now.

How the get the Avery-Drexel route into TS12:
1: Start the Content manager (CMP) of TS2010 and get the route you want to take over to TS12
2: Right click onto the route and choose “Dependencies” in the upcoming window.
3: Step 2 brings up a window indicating all dependencies. Click on the button “show in main view” or something like this. Use that button.
4: Now the CMP main window shows the dependencies of the route only. Mark everything and right click on it. Choose “Save to cdp”. You should not choose every dependencies at once. Just choose the first quarter of the list and do the “Save to cdp”. After that the second quarter and so on.
5: Again get the route you want to take over to TS12 and use the “Edit in Explorer” function. Copy the route folder from the explorer into a location of your choice – e.g. into the place where you saved to dependencies. Do not use the “Save to cdp” function to get the route out of TS2010 as sometimes it makes mistakes- just use the “Edit in Explorer” function to get the route or a session out of TS2010.
6: Open the CMP of TS12 and import the cdp files of the dependencies. Sometimes the CMP will tell you that the item is already installed or is already included as a built in asset. Just press the skip all button in this case. After that import the route itself.
7: Right click onto the imported route and choose “Dependencies” in the upcoming window. There will probably some missing assets – unfortunately. Just make a screen or write down the numbers of these assets. Switch back to the CMP of TS2010 and get these assets out of the data base as described before. Than import it into TS12.

Please note:
For reasons I described very often before, I used a special way to put the trailer bogeys onto my electrics. This way does not work out in TS12 anymore. Therefore you will not be able to use the electrics anymore. There is already a much better way to handle the trailer bogeys making it working also in TS12 but due to my limited spear time I still did not make an update. But for the time being you can use the SD40-2s to run the Milwaukee Road trains.

I hope I could provide a little help.
Good luck – and go for a mirror hard drive.

261 Update

from the friends of 261 the tubes are in right now there is no plans for running the with the fall colors excursion train

Hello Tume,

Im absolutly blown away by your resserection of the Milwaukee Road. Best I've ever seen. I really cant thank you enough for all of the hard work and countless hours of programming this must have taken you. I have to ask a couple questions though... First could you fix the skytop observation car? I downloaded it from dls and its faulty. Second, where could I score an EP2 Bi-polar, like the one in your banner? Lastley where do I find That big Berkshire 261? Do these appear if I beat the scenerio or do I have to download them and if I have to download them where would I find them? Im a huge fan of your work and the Milwaukee Road. My first model train locomotive a "Bandit" SD 40-2, was given to me by my uncle in 1982 just a few years after the Milwaukee closed their doors forever due to a clerical error that showed their pacific coast line showing a false loss after a figure was accidentily double entered. Such a sad way for a great Railroad to be disolved. More should have been done to save this line. Oh, one more question, where would I find the Pacific Division layout? Thanks again, your the greatest keep up the great work!

Which one the trainz or the real one

I can update on the real one that there is alot of work to be done with adsorment of parts of the loco that it looks like it will be back running in 2013

Trainz......I dont know where the real one even is at

Hallo WCL,

its here – at the screen below. :)

Well, as I promised, I work at the whole set of the S3 Northerns. Unfortunately I don’t have a screen from it showing the loco closer as this. But perhaps you can recognized the new steam I attached onto it. One of the biggest issues I had to get done was to get a nice working steam and sound arrangement onto the S3. Another thing is to arrange the scripts as required – for the Hiawatha Car Set as well.
To get the required knowledge, I just spent a little money to buy the Blue Comet trainz bundle. I just studied the arrangement of everything about the main steam output, the engine sound and the interior light arrangement of the passenger cars. Now I know much more than before - thanks James for your help.
The new steam (from the Blue Comet – a bit modified by me to enlarge the dimensions at the chimney and to make it darker looking) has already been attached. Also I am about to do some texture optimization which is necessary as the asset now wears too much textures of a small size, but it is much better to get as less textures as possible even if the remaining texture will have a size of about 1024x1024. After that I need to get normal maps done for some parts. I also started to create a nice engine sound. I use the sound from the Blue Comet as an example but I am just about to substitute the wav files for sound I worked out by myself. This is just to get a sound onto the Northern which sounds much more heavy than the sound for the Blue Comet needs to be.
After that I still need to create the whole workable driver cab including the script as needed.
If this is done I will take care of the Hiawatha Cars to bring it up to the latest standards like better textures, normal mapping, interior light arrangement controlled by the user just like as it is at the Blue Comet Train.
Well – everything needs to get season change functionality and probably one or two LOD steps to save on polygons in the distance.

Yes, I am back working at the S3 besides at my streetcar assets as well. But please don’t expect any release during the next weeks. :)

Thanx Tume...I cant wait for the 261 to be released....It will for sure fit on the route I am working on

i have one question. what is the track the street cars are on? it looks just right for street running railroads. thanks for all that you have done or will do. -inprr

Hallo,

thank you all for your compliments.

Just to answer the latest questions from above:

At first I have to say, that this screen does not really fit into this thread as it does not show my Milwaukee Road project. I just posted this screen because it is my latest screen indicating the 4-8-4 S3 Northern.
The “Coras Café” is a reskin of David Snows “Coras Café” which I modified to put season change functionality onto it - thank you David for your permission. Well you can’t see the season change here as this is a summer screen.

I started building this little route as a demonstrator for season change assets. I created most of these assets for my Milwaukee Road Othello – Kittitas project. Therefore I started creation of a lot of small town houses and store buildings as well as industrial sheds and silos – all assets includes season change. Later on I realized to use mesh library technique and therefore I created an additional building set including the brick buildings you can see at the right side of the screen. These buildings of course will not been used at Othelllo, Wa, but the smaller buildings will.

These series of assets created for Othello, Wa – and other towns like Kittitas – also includes several kinds of HV-Power lines and poles with or without street lamps and electrical transformers which supports season change as well.
Creating the townside of Othello also forced me to create a set of new YARN roads as required to meet the reality as close as possible. Therefore I measured the original YARN roads available at DLS and created my assets to fit at it. This also was necessary as I will add season change functionality onto these roads as well, which is (in case of such roads) not really possible if I can’t control the gmax mesh. Also season change is only supported by the new LOD-arrangement of spline and track assets.

The Streetcar track has also been created by me and I will add season change onto it as well. The tram stop is also my creation. I know I will have to arrange the passenger attachment points in a little better way to get the people more randomly positioned at the platform rather than to have them “lined up” like it is now.

If you want to see more screens of this little town you may follow the link below. There are also screens indicating summer and snow season from the same view point. This should give a little imagination like the route will look like after I added season change onto the track and spline objects as well – and onto the locos and the rolling stock of course. But still only the non spline scenery assets provides season change.

No one of my creations you see here has been released yet – except the bridge foundations (and may be the bridge too) which should be available at my Milwaukee Road Avery – Drexel route which is builtin content at TS2010.

Your’s TUME :)

That's good to know tume.

Also, what about your Tab Lounge? Do you plan to finish that and make an interior for it as well? And are you going to add a lower level to the superdome cars?

Well, I haven't posted anything on this thread in a long time, but I would like to update everyone on the progress of my version of Tume's Avery-Drexel route:
1. The Jointed Rail Track (which is built-in on Trainz 12) has been replaced with Jointed Rail track available on their website.
2. If I didn't post this on my last post, I changed from the Safetran NS signals available on the Download Station to the Safetran signals available for download on Jointed Rail's website. This is because they look identical to some of the signals used by BNSF.
3. Number 9 switches are used on each siding on the mainline other than at the Avery and Falcon passing sidings. At Avery, I used a Number 11 switch on the east end of the siding, while a Number 7 switch is located on the west end of the siding, since I've designated the diverging route on the Number 11 switch is the mainline, so that trains on the mainline do not go through the sharp diverging route of the Number 7 switch. At Falcon, I use a Number 11 switch at on the west end of the siding (I don't remember if I also did a Number 11 Turnout on the east end of the siding). The diverging route of the Number 11 switch is the mainline.
4. The speed limit between Avery and St. Paul Pass has been reduced to 30 Miles per Hour because of the sharp curves and about the bridges. I try to use the flexible bridges with the 'Bridge Pylon' either 'Lrge' or 'Sml'. Because of this, I use the flexible bridges only where the pylons go into the ground. I use the 'Wireframe View' in Surveyor (The Wireframe View can be accessed via a small button at the top of the screen) to tell if the pylons have gone into the ground or not. If they do not, I do not replace the bridges. That's the reason why the speed has been reduced to 30 Miles per Hour.
Also I have a problem with the leading and trailing trucks (or bogies, depending where you are in the world) on the EF4. The front truck has moved closer to the leading 4-axle truck while the trailing truck have moved away from the rear 4-axle truck. Is there a way I can fix it? I think, if I'm thinking correctly, I can change the location of the attachment point on the leading and trailing trucks. I must note that I did not download it from the Download Station, but I uploaded it from Trainz 2010. No matter how many times I import the EF4 and it's dependencies, it won't fix the problem. Can anyone help me?
And one more thing: I have changed the terrain located near the rivers (using the 'smooth terrain' feature) and this has resulted in me using more retaining walls in different places so that it won't look like the track is just 'floating above the ground'.
If I'm to upload it to the Download Station, I would make the following changes:
1. Replace the Safetrain signals available from Jointed Rail's website to the Searchlight signals made by norfolksouthern37 available on the Download Station.
2. Replace the track with 'Auran Track - Concrete with Welded Rails' for the mainline and either 'Auran Track 2009 Jarrah' or 'Auran Track 2009 Oak'.
3. Replace the texture underneath the track because the texture underneath the track is also textures that go with Jointed Rail track that is 'Built-in'; I have not been able to find these anywhere on the Download Station.
I would keep the flexable bridges because I won't spend the extra time finding a bridge that would work with the 'MILW-BPC' catenary poles under the 'trackside accessories' section.
