TUME’s Simulation of “The Milwaukee Road”

Hallo,

during the last days, I collected my Milwaukee Road Warden-Othello-Kittitas Route and all of its dependencies out of TRS2006 and imported it in into TS2010.
To fulfil the aims, described at some statements above, I just started to turn the ground textures into the format required by TS2010 and also I added winter and snow images to the groundtexture objects.
Just have a look at the first screens. Note, all objects containing alpha texture still has to be converted to the TS2010 format – now it appears including some shiny borders and other indication failures. The telegraph wires have to be improved for a better appearance as well – or my graphic card needs some updates too. Also the trees have not been changed to Speed Trees jet and the bushes and all buildings still needs to be redesigned including a snow outfit and LOD as well. Eventually some more grass will make the landscape a bit more realistic.

The view distance has been set up to 5000 Metres – TS2010 indicates a distance of about 2400 Metres from the view point up to the horizon. His is almost better than the view distance at TRS2006 where I could not even see the big slope in at opposite of the Columia River as I started to cross the Beverly Bridge.

Nice work Tume, looks really good.

Not to intrude--or nag--but would it be possible to release the route in a TS2009 format and possibly a TRS2006 version for guys using older versions of trainz. Personally my vote is for the TRS06 version the strongest because my computer/game refuses to run TS2009 routes (i have TS2009 installed).

Also, one more thing, and if i'm intruding i'm sorry and just tell me, cause i'm sure you've been asked this like two-hundred times already, but is the 261/267 still being processed? Just curious. 261 (used) to come through where i live about every year. I sat in the engineer's seat when the crew gave the cab tour. got the-er, to-blast the whistle--it was awesome.

agian, great route, and if TS09/TRS06 versions aren't possible, well, i can learn to convert. keep the fires hot and the steam pegged at the blowoff point, and good luck!

I know the 261 is right now is a how should say it a pile of junk while the group works with the new owner to get the train hoping running again.

Maybe someday in the future, I would do a episode of Nick the Steam Engine as a tribute to the milwaukee road, and another, I would probably make the 261 as a guest star apperence under the name Titan, who makes all diesels and electrics tremble in fear as any of the S-3s would pass on by, cause they are refered to as "The titans of the rails" to the steam engines, and as "the demons of the rails" to the diesels and electrics.

any way, keep up with the process tume.

Boxcab's through the Saddle Mountains - Video

Hallo,

as I am now about to continue working at my Milwaukee Road Othello-Kittitas Route including the content improvement required for TS2010, I just uploaded a video I once created back in 2006, just before I changed to work at the Avery-Drexel Route.

Its about a transcontinental freight rolling from Taunton, Wa to Kittitas, Wa – including the switching operations of the helper at Beverly. It also includes a race between the train and a harley between Smirna and Beverly.
Interesting – I created the video before I created Milwaukee Road’s special switch levers, so at the video the simulation still contains the red Auran levers, witch looks a bit strange.
:D

Just use this link to the Playlist at Youtube:

Have fun watching it!

Wow, that was beautiful! I just finished the whole set of videos. I love those box-cabs in action, and The race with the Harley was very interesting and creative too. Also, I'm surprised how well the unmistakable Railroad Tycoon 3 music went with the video. I think that this route is going to be the main reason for me buying TRS20010.

Can you post your locos as TRS 06 content, as well as others, for those of us that can't afford '09 or '10? Just a thought for when they're done.

Hallo, both questions have been answered several times before, but it is ok for me if people ask who probably missed the information before.
The Milwaukee Road Avery-Drexel route is just too large to be released within TRS2006. I had much trouble to finish the route because of the enormous number of content and textures. Eventually I had to downsize a lot of object textures and I also had to create a special low poly – low texture set of houses just for the town of Mullan, Id. I had to downsize the texture of my bushes and fire trees to 128x64. Due this, the quality dropped down of course. Eventually, I was able to finish the route in TRS2006, but with a bad performance. If I added only one large transcontinental train and several locos, TRS2006 crashed several times or some textures – mostly from some of the locos – had not been indicated and the loco appeared as a white shaped mesh object. It was just impossible to create a session using two or more trains.
Therefore it would not make sense to release the route in TRS2006. Another reason is, that I have done a lot of improvements after changing to TS2009 and eventually to TS2010. I would have to do all this again at my latest TRS2006 version.
We will have to face the same situation at my Milwaukee Road Coast Division. I just want to connect the portions Othello – Kittitas and Kittitas – Tacoma. You may can imagine the density and therefore the number of different content of the towns Othello and Kittitas, which is nothing in comparison to the Cities of Ellensburg, Renton, and Tacoma!

Yes the 261 is still under creation. It is really hard to tell, when I will be able to finish it. Due to this and to the many people who asked for the loco, I am thinking about the possibility to release a beta version for the time being. But I think the final version will be released under TS2009 or TS2010 so the loco can support season change and so on. Also I can connect the trailing bogeys directly to the loco and it will be kept right at the track axis if the loco moves through a curve. This is not possible in TRS2006. Therefore I had to attach the trailing bogeys to an extra “trailing bogey car” which has to be coupled between the loco and the tender.

I hope this answers your questions so far.
Thank you very much for your interest. I am always glad if people likes my work.

Thanks, it does answer the question I had about the 261. I look forward to the beta version, should you release it.

I agree! I've got the cars, just need the steamer to pull 'em.
[FONT=Times New Roman, serif]Just for the time until I will have the Beta ready, you may have a look how my Erie Built Diesels performs pulling the train.
:)
You should find it at DLS under my content too.

Beleive Me, I get the TRS2006 crashing. That's fine, looks like i'll be taking another Config adventure...Oh well. The beta version of the 261 would be amazing, but hey, she's your model.

Anyway, thanks for answering my question(s). The Milwaukee is one of those lines that's relegated to obscurity, but is still one of the best. Your work is simply amazing, and i look forward to what comes next.

Maybe i'll just have to get TS2010 then...

I will say this: your Erie-built locos look great pulling your cars!!! I'm looking forward to the release of the 261 Beta version. I want to race it against the Diesels!!!!!

Instant classic route!!!

I just want to formally recognize Uwe "Tume" for this fantastic work. I have been delightfully engaged in making some of my own sessions on this route included with TRS2010 and actually "playing" Trainz - something I rarely do anymore. I know from experience the amount of work that goes into creating routes + content + rolling stock + locos + sessions + etc, it is not easy and many times is not fun. Thank you Uwe for your dedication to this project and making 2010 worth buying. This is the only route I mess with besides my own by the way. Keep the project going.

Hallo Rich,

thank you very much! I take your words as a great compliment. I know, you are working at Trainz for many years too – even creating everything. I started content creation in 2005 due to the requirement to create the many special objects, locos and rolling stock for the Milwaukee Road, as there was nothing available at DLS back that time. Except of some nice stuff from Scott Monsma who supported my work in a very helpful way.
Yes, I will keep on that project! As written before, I am now about to bring the Othello – Kittitas Route into TS2010, which requires a lot of content to changed or even to build again. But it will be worth to do so, as TS2010 has a lot more of functionality, especially the view distance and the season change. Therefore I am now about to learn what I have to consider in content and route creation to keep performance and view distance as high as possible while keeping a nice level of several little details. And you are right, sometimes all this has to do a lot with hard work and especially if things does not carry out the way we want, it is going to be not always fun

I had an eye to the developing of your projects through the years too. I think it was about 2003 as I saw your first objects, which mostly had some thing to do with logging.
:)
And your screens always appeared very impressive. So I can give the compliment back. One day, I will have to study the CMP functions a bit better, to learn how to divide DSL content from other. Or may I find a way to run two TS2010 separately from each other – one for free ware only, and one for all, including payware. Than, I will do, what I wanted for so long – getting a version of you Routes just to play with it and to get happy about the word of Trainz.
But again I agree with you as the time I really play with Trainz is very rare for me too.
Keep up your great work too.
Greetings from Germany – Your’s Uwe
