TUME’s Simulation of “The Milwaukee Road”

Hey,
Look's like an awesome route tume!:D
Is it up for download anywhere, or isn't it available?
I'd love to run my Milwaukee content on this beautiful layout, great job!:udrool:
Thanks,

New Video: Milwaukee Road – Resurrection in TS2010 / X-Ray-Dog

Dear All,

this has been posted before in the Trainz Video thread as well, but just to collect everything of my Milwaukee Road project in here, I just decided to post it here a second time. So those who already watched it at the Trainz Video thread may watches it again – or not :-)

Impressed by the film music “Revolutionary Mix 1” from X Ray Dog, I decided to make a video about the resurrection of the Milwaukee Road in virtual reality. It was not too easy to minimize any jerking effects while capturing all required scenes from Gmax and the Trainz Simulators.
Now after several attempts, changes and improvements, here it is – have fun watching it!

That is a wonderful video. You make it all look so easy. Your Milwaukee route and associated locos are one of the things that has me very curious about 2010. I love those bi-polars and the Little John (I think that's what they are) locos. Great work, and you deserve all of the nice things people say about it all.

Milwaukee Road 261!

*in an excited, hyperactive voice*
Guys, incredable news involving the 261!!!! I know it's not relavent to the current topic, sorry about this Tume, but the 261 will conitinue running the rails under the current operator! The operator also, as of May 2nd although it was anounce on May 8th, is the new, yes NEW, owner of the glorious steam locomotive and are continuing the overhaul!:Y:  :D

Stephen (SpeedRacerfan5)

That IS good news, although my main preference of US steam is either SP&S, SP and UP, but never the less a steamer saved is a steamer...ummm...saved?

Incidently, Tume, have you released your Milw 261? I like the looks of it.

Cheers
Timo

I think he's releasing a beta version for 2006. I'm not sure, yet. I hope so, cause the Erie-built diesels will get boring after constantly running them all them time (no offense, tume. love the diesels, but look forward to the beta 261, if you release it).

101 Years of Milwaukee Road’s Puget Sound Extension

14. May 1909 – 14. May 2010

In May 14’s 1909, the last Spike had been driven into the sleeper at Garrison, Mt and Milwaukee Roads Puget Sound Extension was opened.
Unfortunately Americans best engineered Rail Road could not survive until today. But the virtual world of Trainz makes it possible to resurrect this impressive Road and give a little imagination how it was as the mighty transcontinental freights powered by the Road’s famous electrics passed by.

Day late and a Dollar short, but...Oh my god! I'm not kidding i got chills watching this. I swear i could feel the drivers of the 267 pounding the ground beneath my feet, the howl of the Little Joe's airhorn, the rumble and the growl as the diesels and the electrics fought the grade...

It's like the Milwaukee never died.

I'm still drooling over the EP-2 Bi-Polar you made. I hope you release it someday. One of my all time favorite locomotives

Thanks for the great route Tume! I am making some power to run over your route, :)

Milwaukee Road SD40-2's lead a executive train in 1976. Coming soon from JointedRail.com.

Hallo,

great job Domingo!! Thanks for the compliment about my route :-)
One day, I have to get involved in creating and using bump maps for a better texture performance of my locos too. Also I want to improve my locos by using LOD, so I will be able to add even more details and I will not have to save on polygons anymore.

I studied the Milwaukee Road SD40-2’s a lot and please led me turn your attention onto a detail about the cab side windows. Milwaukee Roads diesels had not been equipped with the ordinary sun shields like most of the other diesels of other RRs. The Milwaukee Road diesels had non sun shields at its left side and a rectangular box with small windows all around at the driver side. I know, its just a detail but in the other hand it’s a significant detail – every Milwaukee Road fan will see it.

Your loco looks just great and it should not miss the right details as described.

I did not know about such a special passenger train in 1976. I am not sure about the state of catenary ripping at that time. The Milwaukee stopped electrical operation in 1974 between Harlowton and Avery and I saw pictures from about that time. The poles still had survived, but the wires were gone. In addition to this, the four lane Interstate 90 had been constructed between Henderson toward Drexel and St. Regis, just between 1976 and 1980. Two heavy bridges had been constructed high above St.Regis River, just two and a half Miles northwest of Drexel, as well as the grade for the Interstate. I really should make an additional route representing this time period too. I already plane to make an additional route for the time period during the 50’s for those who want to operate the Olympian Hiawatha trains over the route – considering the Olympian Hiawatha had been discontinued in 1961. The whole four lane Interstate had not been constructed back in the 50’s – there was just the two lane Highway 10 going nearly at the same grade.

Again, you did a great job, I will have a look, when you will release your locos, just to see it at my route myself :-)

:)

Keep up your nice doing!

Thanks Tume, much appreciate the nice comments; especially after spending the better half of 4 days just painting the 156 American unit. Also thanks for pointing me to those details, I am a very 'hard core' rivet counter and detail nut so I already had most of the mod's needed in mind. I am going to see if Justin can make all the modifications needed to have a true Milw SD40-2 & GP38-2 set, with 156 included surely.
I hope this does not disappoint, but I was being entirely fictional with my consist of a executive train that to my knowledge never happened. I just needed to run a fancy consist for the first run of my 156.

Your attention to details has blown me away, just something I have been meaning to tell you. Your route is truly amazing, as I have already said.

I will try to get you (Tume) a free copy of my Milw pack when it goes live, but that is something I have to ask the bosses. :)

Look for the pack soon, weathered variants under way. JointedRail.com

Hallo Domingo,

here some photos of the real thing. I additionally recognized that your tank is too long toward the front bogey. I had to deal with the same problem. Besides, I started from the SD40-2 mesh available at Auran’s Art Course CD. Its tank just was too long for Milwaukee’s SD-40’s as well it was formed in a wrong way. First I did not see that, but someone told me, after I uploaded some screens in here.
Additionally I should tell you about some differences in the air horn arrangement at the SD-40’s. I identified three ways of it during my study of a lot of photos. You should check the air horn arrangement at your 156 in comparison to the photos.
Another point is the front railing. Its open at your model, but it was closed at the real loco.

I am just writing you again, as you wrote you love making details right too. Sometimes someone sees something we did not recognised by ourselves – especially if we are involved for a long time. So pleas take this as a little help – not at bad words.

Thank you very much for the offer to get a free version of the loco set. This of course would be very nice and a great compliment for me, but please don’t get in trouble with your boss because of this.

:)

Work at 3d-LOD-ground cover for bush and grass land.

Hallo

I am just about to work further at the Milwaukee Road Othello – Kittitas Route. In comparison the forest areas on the Avery – Drexel route in the Bitterroots, the Othello – Kittitas Route through the Saddle Mountains goes through bush land, which is quite dry and filled up with sage brushes and dry grass.

Therefore I created a set of ground cover splines providing bushes and grass. It supports a five level LOD. Although I covered quite an area, the performance did not going down as well as the draw distance still remains over 4000 Metres. Only I have to adjust some settings at my graphic card and the TS2010 itself, because the alpha blending does not work well right now. Therefore some telegraph and power lines, as well the alpha blended grass and bush texture appears a bit in a strange way, especially in the distance.
At the moment I am using some texture from dmdrake and from jankvis. Thank to both for permission to do so. Jan – I will have to mail you as well. I just wanted to get some results first :-)

By the way, the Taunton Substation was my very first gmax object and so it was the beginning of my being as a content creator. Back in January 2005, as I created the Taunton Substation, I had to learn a lot about compromises between details and performance. The model still has a lot of polygons as I had no experiences using LOD back that time. TRS2004 as well as TRS2006 always stopped performance for a little moment, when the train moved close to the Substation and the software had to read the data from the hard disk :-)

Here the screens from around Taunton, Wa and Milwaukee Roads Substation #21:

Note: The siding track still looks a bit too green, as its been used at the Avery – Drexel route too. I will have to make a reskin, for application in here.

Honestly, i'd trade the Bi-Polar and the Boxcabs (like the ones from the Chase video, by the way :udrool: ) for that track and the 261!! (Can you tell i like her a lot?)
