TUME’s Simulation of “The Milwaukee Road”

Hallo @ all,

I am working on my locos and I am doing this parallel to other content creation and route building.
This includes also working at the EF4’s. I actually have done something at the 4-8-4 also. I updated the engine file and the config to meet the latest TS12 requirements to benefit from its possibilities as there is a much better sound and steam available. At the screen you cannot really see the results of my latest work but you can see the new steam which I adopted from the Blue Comet set. Also I did some texture optimization but still this process is not finished jet. I also updated the bogey arrangement.
A lot of time I need to spend on looking for textures. I already collected very nice photos from the bogeys suitable to work out much more realistic looking textures for the redesign of my Hiawatha Car set. It also requires some time to ask people about the permission to use such photos.
I am about to do the same at the Joe as well. There I also have to put several smaller texture files into one big file as this helps a lot to maintain performance. Unfortunately this also requires a lot of gmax – work which needs time. Eventually the texture will get a normal map as well and the loco needs some script features to handle the electrical cables depends on which other loco it is coupled to.
The most important thing is that I will introduce season change to all of my content – including the locos. This causes several changing as well and has to be done.
Also a redesign and a upgrade for season change is under way for of all of my buildings and structures and ground textures used at the Avery – Drexel route to be able to put 100% season change onto that route. This also includes the replacement of a lot of DLS content by assets created by me because these DLS stuff does not have season change. Now if you take a look into the CMP to check how many dependencies have been built into the Avery – Drexel route you probably can imagine that all this cannot be done until tomorrow.

But I am working hard at it - I with my days would have 36 hours. :)

The 4-8-4 pulls a Hiawatha Train through a fictional test route which I created to test my seasonal content updates. Unfortunately I did not capture a snowy screen as well, but except the train everything on that screen turns to have snow onto it if the snowline has been set to “0” in the Environmental Settings.

@ NEWYORKCENTRAL:

sorry, I can't run the 261 right now as I did not convert it to TS12 requirements. I just converted the 267 and this is the version I am working on right now. If ready I will create a new 261 from the TS12-267 but it will not look much different. In fact there will be two versions of the 261 - one as the heritage loco as it looks now and one as it was in its service times at the Milwaukee Road.

Hallo @ all:

Now some news from the Avery-Drexel route:
Its going to support 100% season change. Therefore I am working hard to create seasonal replacements for all of the content used at that route - my own stuff as well as DLS stuff. Usually I create the replacements by myself - even the DLS replacements. This gives me the possibility to arrange everything in a mesh library. But more important than that is the matter about the permissions to rework and distribute DLS stuff.
Just see some work-in-progress-screens from Mullan,Id. Most of the houses and all roads have been replaced by seasonal assets. HV-Lines and street lamps have been introduced. Most of the non seasonal cars have been replaced with my own creations. Just some houses and the NP-tracks as well as nearly all ground textures still needs to be reworked.
The road replacements follows the yarn system in appearence and dimensiones but some new parts have been made for the special requirements of Mullan, Id. which also looks the same way as the yarn parts does.
Please don't wonder there are no trees indicated right now.

All those pictures make me wish it could snow instead of storm this weekend :( Good work as always.

Superb first class seasonal work dear friend

tume,
super Arbeit! Absolut Spitze. Very very well done, wish I had that many seasonal houses and roads for my route but that is for later, cannot have it all.

Best regards,

Hallo,

here the latest screens from my content-test.
Now I created seasonal replacements for about 70% of the houses and buildings used at Avery-Drexel. Also the telegraph and HV-power lines running besides the track have been replaced all the way between Avery and Drexel. The catenary have been done at Avery and between Drexel and Eastportal. Unfortunately it’s not just a matter of using the replacement tool for several reasons. Therefore I am about to do the telegraph, HV-power lines and catenary replacement by hand. This needs much more time, but opens the possibility to fix something which has not been detected during the first period I used to work at that route e.g. some alignment mistakes and so on.
Also I am about to rework the substation and its operator homes.
The screen indicates a little test area at a single baseboard where I test the assets before I go to build it into the Avery-Drexel route. The operator home is ready while the Eastportal Substation still needs a bit more snow at some parts of it – and of course a normal map which I still need to create.

Is there somewhere that people with TS2012 can get the Avery-Drexel route or is it only a built in 2010 item?

Hallo,
thank you for your interest for Avery-Drexel.
At the moment its only a built in at TS2010.
You can get it out of TS2010 to import it at TS12. I described how to do so before in this thread.
I will give you a description tomorrow as it is time to sleep now for me as it is very late here ...

Well that stinks. Id would have to go buy a copy of 2010 to do that. Im not made of money so I'll just wait and hope that changes in the future.

Sorry, I just did not see that you don't have TS2010. But if you go back in this thread, you will see
that I posted some screens about my work to update the Avery-Drexel route!!!
So from that you should be able to conclude by yourself that there will be an update in the future.
I just can not make a guess when I will got the update finished.

I hope that helps you for the time being.

PS: I don't like expressions like "Well that stinks." !!!! :(

I worked about four years to get the Avery-Drexel route done - including its dependencies as needed to
be made by me. Now I am working hard at the seasonal update which became possible jet.
I don't want you to wast your money - I just did not see that you don't have TS2010 as I unfortunately
did not notice the listed versions of trainz outlined above your post.
Therefore I answered you the way thinking you have TS2010 - OK??!!!!!!!!

Any word on the release of the 261??

Hallo,

if you look just a page back, you see the 4-8-4 at one of my test routes. If you have a look at the steam you can see that I updated the loco to TS12 standard. Also I already did some texture optimization. This was necessary as I created the loco years ago but was not able to finish it because of missing possibility to get nice looking steam and nice engine sound onto it. Unfortunately I had some problems to get season change functionality added to some parts of it. Therefore I was required to delay my work at locos and rolling stock for several times. But now I can continue with it what I am doing parallel to my work at the route update. Still I need to do a lot about normal mapping, the engine sound optimization, the driver cab and the scripting. So I make progress – little steps, but progress.

Sorry to upset you TUME. I know you work really hard on your stuff. I had a really bad day and a little bit of my frustration went through the keyboard.

Tume every time I run your route, I think of the song Up Around the Bend by CCR. I really enjoy running it felt the need to thank you. Good luck on your projects.

Hallo,

here the latest screens from my update-work for a seasonal Avery-Drexel-Route.
The screens indicates Mullan, Id and the Lucky Friday Mine just east of town.
