East end of Adair

Below is the end of the passing siding Adair. Note that the original Kelly Creek Bridge is still there. Think of it as though the bridges were being replaced with bridges like I used on Motor Creek:

Roland A.K.A. Westportal

Here's the new end of Roland. You could also call it 'Westportal', since it is at the 'west portal' of St. Paul Pass Tunnel.

Eastportal

Here's the new snowshed at Eastportal. Note that it's now made of concrete instead of wood:

Saltease Trestle

Below is a picture of the new Saltease Trestle. I considered double-tracking all the way from Brison to Haugan, but it would take too much changing of the terrain.

Hi all,

Apologies if this has already been covered,

(I started looking at the route this weekend and only found the thread yesterday so I haven't been able to look through it ll yet.)

1) Tume the black box looking locomotive in your signature, is there anywhere i can download that?
2) Again Tume the "bi-polar I believe its called is that available anywhere?

Ive tried looking for them on the internet and dls but cant seem to find them anywhere.......

3) does anyone know how I can modify other loco's to have the same pantograph height as the MILW loco's??

And finanlly Tume

You are an artist, your route is fascinating, I simply loved running the "little joe" through its paces and exploring the route myself, thank you for hours of enjoyment, my 2 and 4 year old sons both thoroughly enjoyed the route as there was lots to look at (as well as point all over the computer screen at lol.)

Many thanks

and apologies if any of this has been covered, im on page 5 of teh thread and should make a little more progress this evening but 2 small children are very demanding of my time.

regards

Luke

The East End of Haugan

Here's the other end of Haugan. There are now two crossovers instead of being the end of the siding at Haugan:

Hallo,

nice screens Jordon! It indicates you have done a good job in changing tracks and signals.

Just for the seasonal route update I need to get some nice trucks.
Therefore I started to create a set of Kenworth Trucks.

Eventually there will be a set of several static scenery trucks and some drivable trucks.
Initially the drivable trucks are not designed for users to play with but to get "AI-Trucks" running between some kinds of logging industries at the Avery-Drexel-Route.
The screens indicates the prototype just wearing a grey style texture. The final versions will wear textures of several colors as yellow, red and so on and will of course support season change.

It took a long time to get there. The most difficult part (and time-consuming) was the catenary. I've got more pictures for the rest of the route into the staging yard, I'll put them on here sometime.

EF4 Problems

If you recall a while back, I had a problem with the trucks (bogies) on the EF4. I'm now able to post three photos showing the problem.
Picture #1 - The whole EF4. The problem is with the first and last trucks (bogies).

Picture #2 - The front bogey. You can see one of two problems.

Picture #3 - The rear bogey and hose. As you can see, the truck (bogey) being moved backwards makes the little hose become 'disconnected' from the rest of the locomotive.

Any way you can help with this problem?

Hallo Jordon,

thank you for telling me about this problem – its already been noticed long ago and I described the reasons quite often in this forum thread.
But of course nobody can study the whole thread to check what has been written several month or years ago.

I designed the Joe back in TRS2006 times. Back that time there was no bogey configuration available to handle the trailing bogeys in a proper way.
There was simply no way to give any side-play to a trailing bogey as required to make it following the tracks when the loco moves in curves.
Therefore I developed my own solution by using the “dummy-bogey-car” containing the trailing bogeys.

Unfortunately I missed the big change in the bogey arrangement tags at the config which solved that particular problem and which has been invented within TC3.
So I still used my “dummy-bogey-car” solution to make the trailing bogeys follow the tracks when the Avery-Drexel-Project has been released.
The problem has been detected but there was no time left to change it before the release deadline.

Unfortunately the “dummy-bogey-car” solution now causes problems in TS12 as you already described. I already reworked the Joe the way to solve the trailing bogey problem.
Eventually a reworked Joe (including more details, normal mapping and season change) will be released within the updated Avery-Drexel-Route. But I again have to ask you to be patient until then.

I am working hard to get the route and the loco update done quickly, but the Joe is not the only thing which needs to be updated in this project.

hi tume, did you ever see my 1 post about a tender for the little joe? -inprr

Sorry – I don’t remember such a one. It does not mean I have not seen it, but I just cannot remember at the moment. But you are making me curios about it – so please help me.

Thinking about the fact that the Joes used to be electrical locos I really wonder what kind of tender should be used with it – funny imaginations coming up. :)

The tender could have provided more water for the steam generators on the Little Joes that were used to haul the passenger trains. The steam was used to heat the passenger cars.
Also, I just got the most recent edition of Trains magazine, the March 2013 issue (which covers Norfolk Southern's Steam Program), the 'Preservation' section (Page 63) says that the St. Maries River Railroad, which runs over part of the Milwaukee Road's Puget Sound extension, is starting tourist excursions. But what caught my eye was that it used to haul logs from Avery. Maybe I should have kept the log stack at Avery. . . . . .

Hallo Jordon,

yes I agree such a use makes sense. I noticed that the MILW heated the passenger cars by using steam heaters – even inside the electrics. That’s why there are several photos from the EP2s and EP3s in the net indicating smoke above the locos. I just did not know that the MILW needed to carry extra water for the heating system – until now.

Yes, the River RR purchased several parts of the former MILW tracks – the line between St. Maries and Avery as well. It just run as a single spur through Avery up to the logging station as far as I know. The River RR (owned by a logging company in St. Maries) used the Avery tracks about 5 more years. But then the government wanted to use the grade for a new road (now NF50) and forced the St. Maries River Railroad to abandon the Avery track.
It’s nice to see that the St. Maries River Railroad now offers tourist excursions. I can imagine that it’s probably a nice trip going from Plummer to Clarkia where the line ends now – as far as I know and as it is visible at google maps and street view. There you can also see a large wood storage and loading place. I guess trucks collect the loggs from around the forest to carry it to Clarkia where it goes further to St. Maries on the RR.

As far as I know, there have been logging trains operated by the MILW going from Avery to St. Maries – just between the times as the track has been used by the transcontinental freights. There was a logging station (the one you removed) at Avery where the loggs has been changed from trucks to the RR.

My new – seasonal updated – Avery-Drexel-Route will have a new logging industry located near to Falkon, Id (just see the screens at the page before). I am working at a set of Kenworth Trucks as I still need some seasonal trucks as scenery objects. the trucks made by Dinorius_Redundicus are very nice, but does not support season change – unfortunately. There will also be a set of drivable logging trucks which I will use as “AI-trucks” in the sessions. The “AI-trucks” will carry loggs from the new industry near falcon, id all the way at the gravel road to the logging industry at Avery to unload the loggs and to move back empty. This will provide some nice action beside the tracks to be seen by the users who will control the custom trains through the sessions.

ok there is one on ebay right now. this is the tender and loco configuration. search the name below to see it. -inptt
[h=1]BRASS PSC-18258-2 MILW.RD. EP-4 ELECTRIC LITTLE JOE #E-20 w/AUX.TENDER F/P NEW[/h]

sometimes I have problems connecting other types of locomotives to Little Joey , I delete that littlehose and then I can couple to any locomotive without gaps between the couplers and bogie problems.

Hallo,

here comes some screens from the "trucks for my routes" project.

Its near to the final beta version now. I created and applied the normal map as needed and added some more details to the truck.
I also will have to introduce some LOD levels onto the asset as it counts a bit more than 3000 polys.
Soon I will be able to create several different colour versions based onto that grey one.

Just to have an imagination how it will look like I attached a nice trailer from Dinorius Redundicus onto my Kenworth.
Here some screens from thr truck at Mullan and at Lucky Friday Mine.
