Ts2010EE on schedule ?

Quite surprised by this reaction. Where have Auran ever stated that a 64 bit OS is required for TS 2010?

.......snip....../quote]

Auran never said that 64 bit is required.

This is what they really said:

Specifications announced 13th November 2009
Minimum
Windows XP (SP3)
1GB RAM
Pentium D 3.4GHz (or equivalent)
nVidia Geforce 7200/128MB (or equivalent)
15GB Free Hard Drive Space

Minimum
Windows Vista/Windows 7 (64bit)
2GB RAM
Core 2 Duo (or equivalent)
nVidia Geforce 8600 (or equivalent)
15GB Free Hard Drive Space

Above is from the TS2010 page.

Have fun,:)

Oops I sense a typo from the folks at Auran. Surely the second 'Minimum' should be 'Recommended' to make sense.

Hi,

Don,t know if things are going a bit haywire, but my 'Order History' now says processed.

I ordered the DVD and was,nt expecting it until just before Christmas.

The plot thickens...

Loaded up Helpdesk to cancel my (disc) order but when I go to get the invoice number, the order is now shown as processed and has an Australian PO tracking number against it.

However when I go to the Aus PO site and input the number there's no record of it existing!

So my question(s) to Auran have to be...
1. Have the DVD versions been shipped?
2. If not how can the system generate a shipping tracking number?
3. If yes, has the 32 bit bug been fixed.
4. If no, is it too late to cancel?

I decided to cancel the order as both my PC's are 32bit only and I've no desire to waste money on a programme which requires 64 bit. And quite how a programme which has its base in the era when most of us were using Win 98 or Win ME, suddenly needs a 64bit O/S is more than a little puzzling!

To answer some questions.

The orders for DVD versions for Europe now will show as 'processed' because I've now processed them. That is to say each order now has an addressed envelope prepared waiting for the shipment of stock to arrive here (when it is sent) and for UK deliveries has been assigned a tracking number and the paperwork completed for that.

It may say Australia Post, but that is because the original orders went to the Auran despatch queue. They have been transferred to my queue now which his why they've been processed recently. Any orders placed after things were transferred to me will show Royal Mail instead of Australia Post.

The tracking number shown is a Royal Mail tracking number for UK recorded delivery. This will not be available for a status check on the Royal Mail website until after they have actually been posted. (Since they don't know about it until they've scanned the bar codes into the system).

TS2010 will run on a 32bit system, it is just that 64 bit is recommended.

Hope that helps.
Mike.

Dear Mr. Knight,

IMHO you are missing the point.
Auran can take as much time as Auran thinks it needs to finish the product.
But Auran should then not mention any "* Release Date: 30/11/2009 (dd/mm/yyyy)" (quoted as taken today from the order history page, was 23/11/2009 on November 17th) neither charge the amount due before being able to deliver the ordered product.

Best regards,
S. Nagel

Mr. Nagel, you are as right as can be :)

I don't like to be mislead with such a behaviour.... 3 times he.

Re the 64 bit vs 32 bit, it may have been in one of the deleted/removed posts/threads but didn't someone record that certain parts of TS2010 had hit a brick wall in 32 bit, which was then followed by a suggestion if this was the long routes (which have never had a problem running in Trainz before) Auran should consider releasing two versions.

I would still like to know why what is essentially eight year old software suddenly needs a 64 bit O/S to get the best out of it.

Anyhow I have emailed the Helpdesk asking them to cancel the preorder as, regardless of staus on the Account Page, that's what it is until the official release date. If you pre-order a CD or Blu-Ray from Play.com or Amazon you can cancel right up until the release date...

Here in Belgium we can cancel any internet-order within 7 days...
(it' s the law)

But I did not cancel TS2010 ;)
It' s a good sim.

John.

Correct me if I'm wrong but didn't you start this thread? The offer made to me and I think everybody else by Auran was for a release date of the 16th November 2009 and not an estimated release date.

I think it's only right and proper that people can vent their frustrations at the delay especially when they have paid for it.

I for my part will keep my counsel as my thoughts are not publishable and are probably actionable. Meanwhile I await in anticipation.

Regards

Martin

Yes Martin, I did start this thread, but if you go to the first post it was not a

complaining one! It was, after a couple of previous postponements, a hope
that this time the release was about to happen as the eta was so close,

John.

Perhaps it's been rewritten to do so? I'm no coder so I couldn't really say.

Or is it finally creaking under the weight of so many bits bolted on the eight year old code was never intended to handle, that the only way forward is to specify a higher level of O/S?

I'm ok I can run x86 or x64 so to me it makes on diffrance it's the people that can only run x86 I feel sorry for.... I guess it's also luck that alot of software is now useable with x64 pc.

But I still think Auran should have sent an email to everyone and should now look at giving us somthing as a way of saying sorry.....

Cheers Rusty

Guess that's it Vern.
Trainz has a kind of a draw back: it's graphics.
Better grahpics > more poly's > more power needed.

32 vs 64-bit?

What are the 32-bit brick walls mentioned?

My problem with running 64-bit, is that the Rail Simulator plugins I use for 3DS Max only work in 32-bit. Unless the "64-bit recommended O/S" can be addressed (where 32-bit takes a major hit), I'll pass on the new version, thank you.

You want some kind of freebie because Auran are spending extra time making sure we get a better product?

If you allow me: money is not an option in this case.
It' s all about the delay... nothing else.

And some people here suffer from the Stockholm Syndrome.
(not a bad thing, kind of normal in these cases)

....I wonder if someone from Auran could confirm that Ts2010 contains 175 miles of the ECML....

....testing has revealed some memory issues on 32 bit machines, where the game reaches the hard limits of the Operating System....
I wonder if these two things could be related? :hehe:

Just pleased that I'm getting a 64bit O/S on my new system!

Paul

Blimey there are some drama queens in this thread aren't there.

I suggest everyone takes a deep breath, counts to ten, and then reads this post from Spiffy very carefully.....

"Due to this product having the largest routes and highest quality content that we have worked with in Trainz history, testing has revealed some memory issues on 32 bit machines, where the game reaches the hard limits of the Operating System. In extreme cases, this causes a crash of the simulator. While this happens only after running sessions for long periods, we feel it is in the best interest of our community and customers to hold the release for a short period in order to fix these issues rather than distribute a flawed product."

So, I think that says that there has been a problem identified which means that people with 32bit O/S may not have a good experience. In order to FIX this they have delayed release.

What this means is that you will not have to have a 64bit system because they will be fixing it so you still get good results on a 32bit system.

Nobody is getting less than they thought, people with 64bit systems would have been fine anyway but the delay will improve things for 32bit users.

I really am struggling to see what all the fuss is about personally. Perhaps someone can explain carefully exactly what I am not seeing?

Mike.

Awww, Mike you have spoilt my fun by being sensible (as usual)

I have had a good laugh all day at work, reading these posts ;)

I wonder if they had this problem when it was announced that Bananas would be arriving in the UK, for the first time?

:: I paid 5 shillings and 6 Pence for one and the boat is late arriving, so what? I will wait till it arrives ::

....snip....

I really am struggling to see what all the fuss is about personally. Perhaps someone can explain carefully exactly what I am not seeing?

Mike.

Well, perhaps some people were looking for a personal email from an Auran Executive, apologizing to them personally and directly for the delay?:)

Have fun,:)

Mike, you are a good writer with good toughts ;)
You probably do not want to see the delay: 3 times in a row.

Auran could not redeem the expectations.

Sure, they could release the software too early and treat us with an SP
of 330 gb in a few weeks :hehe:

I don't care the bits, 64 or even 128.
The software has to be ready before the release date.
And in only (?) a week before release they discover problems?

A
deadline
is not my concern, sorry. I do understand this but as I say,
it's not my concern.

Next time the best thing to do is to keep silent...
Make de software ready after good testing.
Determine then the release date.
No fuss anymore and you want lose customers.
Most people are loyal.

And if the company is desporate for money, wel they have to be patient
like we now have to....

That's it folks  ;)
