TS2010 Session making competition - feedback

Switch Stand missing on Holly Sub

James,

I have created a session for the CN Holly Subdivision route. The route is missing most of the switchstands. Several months ago I found the correct stands and added them to the route. Then I made the session. Has Auran done a hot fix for this route so it is valid for the session contest? If not, will you be doing this in the near future or has all my session work for this route been for naught?

David

I have released two sessions for this contest. CN Supplies Drop Off for the CN Holly Subdivision and Shift Race for Conrail Secondary.

Dap,
Not everyone has the switch problem, I think might have to do with the starting version you got.

hert, May I suggest you add the kuid number for your HTML asset to the sessions config.txt file's kuid-table. That way it will download automatically and novice users will not need to try to figure out what is wrong.

Unfortunately, I was not able to run your session for the Holly Sub. The route comes up with no switch stands in many places. For example there are none at the far end of the D&M yard nor none on the cross-over on the mainline there.

Maybe someone from Auran can explain how someone who has the version of Trainz that I have can make use of these sessions. I am running my Trainz 2010, newly installed on a separate drive from my working version. It was purchased as build 41491 and has been systematically updated with the various sp's, the latest which is 44088. I keep it in its virgin pristine built-in-content-only condition for the purpose of testing various sessions I have been creating.

I've been informed we will not be issuing a patch for this route within the timeframe of the competition, so the version you have is the version that will be used for judging.

If what you want to do can be achieved by either downloading updated versions of the switchstands (i.e. through the 'content updates' menu or through CM), or adding additional switchstands to the session layer, you are welcome to do so. Hint: In the first case, add the relevant updated KUIDs to the dependency table of the session, and Content Manager will download the updates automatically with the session.

I'm happy to make an exception to the 'no additional content downloads' for this specific case, provided the updates are not overly large, and that Content Manager will do the download automatically.

If it cannot be done as part of the session, and requires modification to the route itself, then it does not meet the requirements for this competition. In this case I would suggest that you choose a different route.

Yes - please do this, as it'll be reported to you as a problem that needs to be fixed if the submission is in this state when we first look at it.

James,

Thanks for clearing this up. The CN Holly Sub would be an exceptional route if it had the switch stands showing.

I can not find my notes from two months ago when I got the switch stands added and have forgotten how I did it. From a previous thread
On further investigation it seems that the CN Holly uses a non-built in switch called CNR Switch Stand Yard 1 <kuid2:87145:24012:3>
I have donwloaded this asset but what do I have to do to get it installed on the route?

Maybe I just need to find someone who has switches on this route and ask them to test this session.

Another reminder on this competition - ten days remain. Get those sessions finished and up on the DLS for entry into the competition!

Another reminder on this competition - ten days remain. Get those sessions finished and up on the DLS for entry into the competition!

I have submitted two sessions in the past 2 - 3 weeks and have not seen nor heard anything from Auran about them. And they do not show up on the DLS.

Back in early January I submitted a third one and got the following message:

Init failed

If you require further assistance please contact our Helpdesk (http://www.auran.com/helpdesk).
or check the FAQ:
http://www.auran.com/faq/default.php?FaqID=210

So, I checked out the faq link and found nothing about "Init failed", so I tried the help desk which has never responded to my inqueries. I then sent an email to auransupport@auran.com on 1/26 asking about the Init failed and the fact that I cannot sign-on to the helpdesk.

I got a reply from Zec stating that " I have sent an email to the admin regarding this, and will let you know when he gets back to me."

In response to not able to acces the helpdesk I got this:

"Your Ticket has been received and a member of our staff will review it and reply accordingly. We are currently very busy and will endeavor to answer your ticket within 5 days. Listed below are details of this Ticket.

Well, I am in a catch 22. I can't log onto the HelpDesk to get the status of the solution to my problem of not being able to log onto the HelpDesk.

I followed up with an email on 2/5 and have not had a reply since.

Needless to say I am feeling a bit unwelcome. I hate to post all this on a public forum, but where else can I reliably communicate with you with a fair expectation of a reply?

Got a good session

Hi folks,
I have a good session called routes out of London and two routes so far. London Kings Cross to York and a fictional route from Strand International to Newcastle. The latter has DB rolling stock like the Desiro, AR41, x72500 Aussen, ICE, ICE Tilting Diesel, DB763 and things like that. The former mainly has typical london rolling stock like the IC 125 and I downloaded a 450 Desiro. Also using a Class 172 Turbostar I made on Gmax.

James, you can put my session "Freight in, Freight out" (KUID "46012:100035:1") for the route "Springflield Industrial District" on your list now.
Fixed some errors (the description length thingie) and it has been approved and I can see it though the Web-DLS already. (just not yet in CM)

I'm not sure however if I'll get around of uploading another one because hosting multiplayer sessions is way too much fun, but that way I at least have one entry in the competition. :)

Finally have one Session on the DLS. KUID: 32711:100033 CN Holly SubDivision Pontiac Yard Ops

Pontiac Yard Operations - It is a light snowy morning. You are the switcher crew. Your job is to pull strings of cars from thru trains, set-out strings for pick-up and sort (classify) cars as needed. 2-1/2 hours of non-stop switching and classification plus more.
This is a fast paced session with little room for error in your classification of the incoming freight cars. Through freights must be kept on schedule. The timetable is available in the pop-up help window. You will want to use the pause button while you plan your switching strategies. You will be scored on the starts and stops you make with the switching engine.

Enjoy.

David

I can't find on DLS searching for name as given or KUID. Is it available to us novices or must it be evaluated for the contest first? From your description it sounds like my kind of session.

David,

I tried to run your session but Andrew's train (7:07) appears to be missing. He shows up in the list of drivers but there's no train. I also get the dreaded red dot with a Driver Command error which is probably related.

I'm running TRS2010 SP3 in native mode and have no missing assets. Any ideas?

Regards, Paul

Paul,

I am assuming that your system has downloaded all the dependancies. There are 7 consists that are dependancies. They are Pont Yard 3, 5, 7, 8, 9, 11, & 13. If you have these, then I'm just guessing on this but when you start the session and after you have selected day 1, try opening the QuickPortalManagerV3. It should be accessable by clicking on the little square icon in the upper right corner of the screen. When you get it open, click on the top item - Refresh global consist library data.

If this does not work, I'll need to know the content of the "dreaded red dot" pop-up window.

I copied the kuid # and name directly from the DLS window and pasted it into my post. It is there somewhere on the DLS. Make sure you get all the dependancies.

David

David,

I followed your instructions re the Portal Manager - no change. So here's what is in the 'red dot' window:

DriverCommandRule:Thread Exception: ER_Exception, line 418, file drivercommandrule.gs (1)
DriverCommandRule: World.AddDriverCommand> not a DriverCommand asset: <kuid:131986:1004> (file world.gs) (1)
DriverCommandRule:Thread Exception: ER_Exception, line 167, file drivercommandrule.gs (2)
DriverCommandRule: World.FindDriverCommand> not a DriverCommand asset: <kuid:131986:1004> (file world.gs) (1)
DriverCommandRule: World.FindDriverCommand> not a DriverCommand asset: <kuid2:41009:900005:1> (file world.gs) (1)

Having looked at this, I checked to see if I had these two assets installed. I didn't have kuid:131986:1004 so I downloaded it and the error references to it disappeared. However, I can't find the other asset. I have kuid:41009:900005 (WaitUntil) installed but it's not labelled as 'obsolete' and I can't find kuid2:41009:900005:1 in the DLS. Do you know where I can find the updated version of this asset? Is it something that's included TRS2010 SP4? I haven't upgraded yet. If that's the case, can I solve the problem by editing the config file back to kuid:41009:900005 - at least until I upgrade to SP4?

Regards, Paul

David,

Thanks, that got rid of the red dot and now Andrew has a train. The only trouble is, it won't move. It just sits there awaiting track clearance. I've separated out the first consist and I'm ready for Andrew's consist but it just won't move.

Perhaps I'm missing something but it's just not obvious to me.

Regards, Paul
