TS2010 Session making competition - feedback

Is there any special way to upload sessions to the DLS or should we just follow the instructions for general upload that are on TrainzWiki?

Chris,

If you are not already familiar with David's (dap) creation, the CMTM System, I would recommend that you check it out. It is very a clever system that brings a whole new level to operations in Trainz.

The small IntenCity and the larger Krashnburne routes take the AI up a notch - single track "smoke stack USA" routes with crossing loops and the AI heading in both directions simultaneously. Has anybody tried the sessions?
Phil

Phil, I've messed with the sessions somewhat however I think I've found a problem in Intencity 1a session 5. If you D/L and install the loco via rapidshare listed in the config.txt it has a kuid of 2:69871:1002:1 (Loco DTC Switcher kDB EB03) which obsoletes the route kuid:69871:1002.
Love all your routes and sessions!
Mike

I have discovered a slight issue with my plan. For some reason, even if I add something like catenary to the session layer, it still wants me to save over the route itself.

Hi william,

I'm well aware of it - I've watched Dap progress its development since his very first questions on the forums. I'm glad that people are trying some serious development in the Trainz environment.

That said, I haven't had a good opportunity to check his system out in person. When I have some free time (heh) I'll do that, thanks.

Chris,

I have just uploaded a very simple demo route that use all built-in assets except for several of pguy's latest QuickDrive items. It is waiting to be processed. Included are the following items:

Portal - CMTMPortal2 Demo,<kuid:32711:1060>
System Library - CMTMSys2 Demo,<kuid:32711:1058>
Consist - CMTM Demo1,<kuid:32711:1078>
Session - CMTM Freight House,<kuid:32711:1067>
Route - CMTM2 Demo,<kuid:32711:1063>

I also use pguy's Rules listed below. These are not built in and did not show up as dependencies. Not sure why not.

QuickDrive rule v2,<kuid2:61392:5001:5>
Quick Portal Manager v3,<kuid2:61392:5012:8>
Quick SessionVars V2,<kuid2:61392:5003:3>
ConsistDataHandler rule v2,<kuid2:61392:5002:4>

There is also no help screen.

Session Goal: Deliver 20 cars to the Freight House in their proper order and pick up 20 cars from the Freight House and sort them to their proper destinations. Check the map for track marks for destinations.

When the session starts, choose Day one.

There are 12 freightcars (or wagons) on Yard Track 1. There are 4 empty cars on Yard Track 4. Before you move the cars on Yard Track 4 you must assign a destination to each. Click on the first car and then click on "add record to vehicle" and select a record. Choose them in the right order to minimize your switching moves.

While you are switching, an AI train will arrive on the Yard Main and drop off 4 more cars. Make sure you are out of the way of this train. It is due at 8:06. There are now a total of 20 cars that need to be put in the proper order so when they are delivered to the freight house, each car will be at its correct door. When the cars are delivered, you will have to note by clicking on each car and then selecting "Click here when car is delivered". (How do you like doing the conductor's paperwork?)

When you get the cars delivered, pull the string of cars from the back side of the freight house, bring them back to the yard and sort them according to their destinations. Now using QuickDrive, set the clock forward and hour and check the cars you delivered earlier to the freight house. Their next destinations should be showing. Pull this string, bring it back to the yard and sort according to destination.

End of demo session. Hopfully, your mind is now reeling with ideas for some great sessions using this destination system.

I think i've had this issue with my own route.. I've changed a few things and then its made me save a new version of the route.

You have to be very careful when adding anything to a session layer that touches something on the route layer like trackside objects and track. The slightest movement will cause the program to think you have modified the route.

Also you can't rename a object on the route layer using the properties tool. That is saved to the route layer. You can of course use the properties tool to alter the settings of a industry, just don't rename the industry.

A good tip here is to lock the route layer. It should be much harder to inadvertently edit the route if it's layer is locked...

Duplicate kuids

Mike --

Thanks for pointing out the kuid conflict.

I've uploaded the session again but with a new kuid that will not conflict with any of my other material, and I've asked Zec to remove the existing Session 5 from the Download Station.

The lesson is not to let TS2010 assign kuids automatically but to assign them manually.

Even with the Route layer locked you can cause a problem. I foolishly thought I could add a portal. I had the route layer locked. Working on the session layer, I placed the portal, aligned it to the proper direction and moved it into location at the end of a piece of track. It joined to the track. I then tried to save and it wanted to save the route, not just the session. Too bad we can't add some well needed features such as portals and missing switch levers to fix some of the built-in routes that have these problems.

This should definitely work. Portals are a much more complicated subject, but simply adding a switch lever should definitely not cause a problem with the route- if it does, that is a clear bug.

David,

I haven't tried this since TS2010 first came out but you should be able to use a section of spline track on the session layer to act as a connector between the portal and track on the route layer. If the track on the route layer is straight then make a short piece of spline track on the session layer that is in alignment with the track on the route layer. Then add the portal to the new spline track. It can be done but it is tricky.

James, the layer locking only prevents the user from moving something with the mouse by grabbing it. It doesn't prevent movement from say adding a a piece of spline track that changes the curvature of a section of spline track on the route layer. In other words, it locks the locations of the spline points but not the curve in between the points. Surveyor sees the change in the curve as a change to the route.

I tried to add switch levers to the CN Holly Subdivision built-in route. The route layer was locked. The levers got placed, but both arrows were red.

Thanks for the tip. I'll give it a try. Now I just have to find an open track that doesn't go all the way to the edge of the route.

I smell a "route building competition farce" coming. You had entries for the competition. Give them the prizes they are entitled to.
