TS2009 was working just a second ago...

I was installing a freeware locomotive from JR. It was successfully installed but when I hit close it said 'Please wait. Content Manager is shutting down'. I sit there for about 2 inutes and nothing happened. I hold the power button on my PC and the screen goes black. I turn it back on, click the TS2009 Launcher icon, and nothing happens. It was working not even 4 minutes ago! I really don't want to uninstall. Please help.

I am assuming you already rebooted your PC. Have you run a database repair in the Content Manager Program?

I cant run any program associated with Trainz 2009. I already went into the Trainz File Folders and tried to run the Content Manager.exe and nothing. Its as good as the launcher. I ran every file with the Application info tag. Nothing. This is the computer that Trainz 2009 runs perfect on.

Can I ask if you had patched the game at all before this incident happened? Reason I ask is because if it was at build 44653 (Service Pack 4), I may be able to help you sort the problem.

A miracle just happened. I thought to myself "Well, since it isn't working, I'll go try out a demo of Railworks. I'm to lazy to get on the other PC for TRS2004." I crashed a british steam locomotive. I got it moving within a minute. Drove for about 6 minutes, then crashed it. I loved the way it actually crashed the train. I still love Trainz, but it was something new and pretty cool. I exit the simulator and BOOM! Every Trainz related application I tried to open popped up! I don't know why it took so long. Thanks for trying to help solve the issue. Its ok now.

Sounds like the system couldn't keep up for some reason. Usually happens when a program is using a lot of processor time.

I have seen that happen a couple of times when Trainz has crashed. My feelings it is rebuilding the database even though it has not put up a dialog box.

Rather than turning the computer off when CM stops working it is probably better to open up Windows Task Manager (ctrl+shft+escape or ctrl+alt+delete) then use end task to close CM. This should allow the other trainz processes that are running to close properly which turning off the computer does not.

When I go in game it says Trainz has been Damaged. Open CM to fix it. I'm gonna do that and hopefully it will all go away.

You probably need to run an Extended Database Repair (EDR). The damage sounds pretty bad. This is located under the File menu in CM. In the future don't ever press the reset button when Trainz is stuck. This will definitely corrupt the database, or worse corrupt the whole game, any downloaded content, and your personal route if you have one. In that event, you'll have not choice but to reinstall and start from scratch.

Actually, I think a whole reinstall is what I need. It quit the day after I got it. Hadnt made any routes so its all good. Your right about critical damage. When I opened a map it was blank and no texture on terrain. The compass was stuck in place and interface was barely noticable. I learned the hard way. One time I had worked on a great route for 04. I come back. The map and the entire game was corrupt. On the reinstall it said Error. Data1 is corrupt. My game had got a virus! After I orderd a new disk and installed, my content was ALL there! That includes the hundreds of locomotives and rolling stock I had installed. Thank God!

Thankyou for letting us know. I've found that a reinstall can sort many Trainz problems out, apart from the texture compression issue.
