TS12 Quick Drive question

Been away from Trainz for a while, thought I'd give TS12 a try. A lot to learn and re learn.
When I select a route and select Quick Drive the manual says the New Train option should show Global Consist Library, select Surveyor List or custom list.
All I get is a lot of ready made consists of rolling stock without locos. How do I add a loco to one of these consists?

What route are you using?

Sessions is quite self explanatory (and edit sessions), but I can't really see the point of the quick drive command.

I can,t see the point of "Quck Drive" either. I have tried it and decided it was pointless. When I,m working on a route and need a test train I just place it, save , exit surveyor and go into session.

doshead,

I have TS2010, so there may be slight differences, but here is how I understand it to work.

The SurveyorList consists are "fixed" from what is predefined in, or you add to, the consist list available in Surveyor mode. If you want to add an engine to these for use with QuickDrive or QuickPortal Manager, then you should create a new list and use the "Copy to" function on the SurveyorList to copy the consist of interest from the SurveyorList to your new list. Then you can edit that consist in the new list, including adding locomotives to it.
This will allow you to reference your consist again and again in Driver.

As far as why this is useful, I see it as enabling continuous operations. Letting me dynamically change the conditions from within a session.
If you search for posts from pguy then you will be able to read more about the philosophy behind this rule.

Another method that may be useful to you is the Emit Train Now rule (from JointedRail if not on the DLS) that allows you to assemble trains without using the Global Consist Library interface. The Surveyor consists show up as "Saved Consists" and you can easily add locomotives as well as any other car to them to create a new consist to add to your route.

Have fun.

I too don't understand using global consist library? In surveyor i build the trains i want and add them to the consist list and they show up in all sessions that have quick drive rule added to that session. I also use Emit Train Now to see what a particler car will load with by defaul or otherswise.

I also have all the rolling stock & locomovites that i use the most so i can click on QD and add them while in driver.

The trick here is where to click on the track when adding a train that is 50 cars long.

All my consists are named with A then the name, all cars with B then name, locomovite with C then name this way it easy to find them

The Surveyor List is read only in the list editor. Version 2 at least allows you to edit the first item in the list, and add, remove or change items as required, but the changes are not saved.

One problem with the current list is that the consists without an engine roll away downhill as soon as they are placed.

The list is created from assets of type "Consist". It is possible to add an engine to the consists where they are missing by updating config.txt for the asset, following the pattern in that file, or to clone an existing consist asset and make wholesale changes. The only item required to define a consist is the config.txt file. The edit will create two error warnings for the asset, but they can be ignored. It is worthwhile making sure the new engine (or whatever) has a thumbnail, as it is used when the list is displayed.

I think there ought to a ground tug and a string of baggage trolleys as a consist for the airport scenes, but I haven't found it yet.
