TS09 alpha issues????

G’Day All, Windwalker in these forums once stated that TS09 had NO alpha issues, well these screen shots say different, one route is the built in Marias Pass Approach the other is the wonderful Darjeeling Himalayan Railway.
To my way of thinking ANY built in item should run without problem in native mode, it is also quite strange that the DHR runs perfectly in TS10 native mode but has the issues as seen in these screen shots just the same as Marias Pass Approach. 43434 TS10, 41844 TS09.

OK, now tell me there are no alpha issues in TS09 and will there really be a SP4 for TS09 and if so will it address these alpha issues???

People I think are busy worrying about the end of support for TRS2004. ;)

Have you tried running in compatibility mode? This is the option within Trainz, not Windows 7 or Vista.

This is one way to get around the alpha channel problem.

If this doesn't fix the problem, try switching from DirectX to openGL, and see if that fixes the problem.

No, and it still happens in 2010, but compared with how Trainz looked when I first started using it, things are definitely better, but still far from perfect (I think that this is because the game engine is so old).

I am just hoping that one day we will have a version of Trainz that uses real lights that cast real shadows. I personally turn shadows off because they look silly, when some things cast shadows and others dont.

But besides all this Trainz is the game that I play the most and get the most enjoyment from, despite all of its foibles. :D

No, this is exactly what old trees always looked like in TS09 Native mode. I'm surprised in WindWalkr said anything other than that. They should look better in compatibility mode. Many older trees look better in TS2010 native mode, but some still look odd, and all look different.

The change is because the way that Trainz used to render overlapping alpha blender objects is not well supported by graphics cards, and is therefore very CPU intensive. Have a careful look at other recent games, and tell me if you see any that use old Trainz style trees...

G’Day Paul & John, yes those routes do run OK in compatibility mode but I would have thought that the built in Marias Pass Approach should have worked OK in native.
The DHR works fine in TRS10 native but not in TS09 native so surly there is a problem with TS09. Will we get a SP4 for TS09 and will it fix this issue or is it already end of times for TS09 as well???

No idea if the rendeing in TS09 will be improved to TS2010 standards. There was a change in the way that semi-transparent surfaces are rendered between the two versions. When launched, TS2009 was designed to run everything in compatibility mode, but included native mode as a way for creators to get to grips with new content creation methods. As such, none of the built-in routes were updated to run in native mode. Many of these routes were tweaked to look better for TS2010.

G'Day Paul, Thank you for the explanation, I just hope Auran bring out SP4 for TS09 and it does address this issue as it will make it a great simulator.
Although I have TS10 I don't like it because of the overwriting that occurs when loading routes into it (track and trees), I prefer routes left as the author created them and then if I wish to change things I can.
Oh well guess I will just have to wait and see but I won't hold my breath waiting.:hehe:
