TRS22 PE will not run on HP Victus

I am having issues launching / running TRS22 PE on my HP Victus laptop, specifically on the laptop screen itself. If I plug a monitor in the game runs fine on that screen (tried two different screens, both fine). A little backstory, my kids have been playing TANE for a year or so and it quit working recently so I just bought TRS22 PE hoping it was just an issue with TANE. Besides, TANE is a little older and I'd heard good things about '22.

When i click start Trainz from the launcher, the game window partially opens, hangs, and then it and the launcher both close with no errors provided. I think its got something to do with the monitor driver perhaps? I'm at my wits end, lol. i bought an expensive gaming laptop to keep the kids off my desktop so hoping i can resolve. I did some searching, did 2 fresh windows installs, updated device drivers via HP's site, etc. etc. and cannot seem to fix the issue. Device manager is also clean; no unknown devices

Please provide the technical information on the laptop such as info on the video, CPU, and all the other goodies. It sounds to me that the laptop uses Intel graphics and not one of the others by NVidia or AMD.

Thanks John, it's got the nvidia rtx 4060 laptop GPU which is 8GB. In device manager i see that one as well as Intel UHD graphics. The machine is a HP Victus 16-r0073cl.

CPU: 13th Gen I7-13700HX 2.10 GHz
32GB RAM
1TB SSD
Nvidia RTX 4060 and Intel UHD graphics
Win 11 Home 23H2

Recommended (windows) resolution is 1920 x 1080 with scaling at 125%. I've tried 100% to no avail but saw that helped some folks. Let me know if there's any other specs that might help. It's definitely got the horsepower but the issue is definitely video related somehow.

I just disabled the Intel UHD graphics and rebooted (i figured maybe that's where you were going) and the game now launches without crashing, so that is awesome. After i disabled Intel UHD graphics though, i cannot adjust screen resolution; its grayed out completely now. That's not the end of the world; how often does it need to be changed (never). Maybe that's what the intel GPU controls.

That's probably right. Hardware manufacturers do odd things and mostly more complicated things than they should be. If you have the NVidia Control Panel loaded, you can change the resolution there. I think you can download the NVidia Control Panel from www.nvidia.com.

On some laptops, there's a utility that should either allow you to switch modes manually or does that automatically for you. My Dell has an automatic switch for graphics from Intel to NVidia 4090.

The 4060 should work for Trainz and everything else is fine.

Did disabling the Intel UHD graphics help with Trainz?

Yessir it did help; the game now launches and can be played. I went back and installed TANE as well and that works fine as well. 2022 looks like a different world and will take my kids some time to learn. They are used to a quick drive with any train in their inventory. Didn't see that in 2022 with the little bit of time i've had with it. Thanks again!

That is really great to hear. I'm glad you got Trainz working.

In Trainz PE Quick Drive has been replaced by what is called Universal Driver and Surveyor (UDS). With UDS, you can easily place a train while in Surveyor then switch right into Driver and then return back to Surveyor. To switch between, you can click on the Tools menu, the one that looks like a wrench and screw driver, or by using the control keys.
