TRS 12 IS RUBBISH!!!

I will do my best to use polite language to express my displeasure with Trainz 2012- 50$ US thrown down the sewer for an unwieldy, disorganized, and altogether inferior product- I would do well to return to BVE rather than endure the nearly eternal load times, utter lack of unusable third party content, and general frustration I have encountered with this- I am very disappointed with what has happened to what used to be the best Train Sim available- and I only see things degrading further as NV GREED continues to wreck the franchise to pad it's own pockets- Not only does it take an eternity for even the simplest layout to load, even when your PC passes and exceeds all of the hardware requirements, all of the patches released for this game seem only to compound the problems- HOW ABOUT SPENDING MORE TIME BETA TESTING, AND FIXING BUGS SO THERE WOULD BE LESS NECESSITY TO ISSUE 187 DIFFERENT BUG FIXES-? AND, I do not have a quarrel with the lack of 'Backward Compatibility", but could the CONTENT MANAGER AT LEAST PLEASE NOT BOTHER DOWNLOADING CONTENT WITH MISSING ASSETS THAT CANNOT BE FOUND?- AND FOR THOSE OF YOU WHO DO UPLOAD CONTENT, SOME OF WHICH YOU MUST ENDURE 7 LEVELS OF HELL TO COMPLETELY COLLECT, WHY THE HELL CAN YOU NOT BE BOTHERED TO SUBMIT YOUR CONTENT WITHOUT THE NEED TO GO MUCKING ABOUT SEARCHING FOR DEPENDENCIES THAT MANY TIMES ARE NOWHERE TO BE FOUND???! please, do not do us any "favors" I wish to heaven I could have the money I wasted on this crap back, so I may give it to some organization that actually does some good in the world- Never that mind all the in game content is not categorized nor organized anymore so much as it is all dumped out like thousands of toys it takes an eternity to sort through, resulting in more hair pulling!!!!- I'll happily transfer my licence to any living organism on the planet who will take this horrid piece of garbage off of my hands, or the Disc will make a lovely "Clay Pigeon"- whatever you do- AVOID THIS PRODUCT AT ALL COSTS

Not only is the forum a great place to post rants, buy you will also find there is a community of fellow users here who can help solve many issues Trainz related. While I don't doubt for a minute you are having serious TS12 issues, have you bothered to seek help here regarding any of them?

Merely a suggestion.

dude get over it. I have prolbems but i don't got swarning on the fourm in arnger becuse i can't get a route to load. TRS12 needs a lot of power to work and it will take time. if you don't like it then go to the help dask and ask for a refund. there a old saying we ues here: if it fails ask for help befor throwing it out. there ppl here that know how to fix things. ask frist then try there avise if that don't work then all fails remove it just that smilpe.

Well, I beg to differ. I find 12 to be the best Trainz yet. If you need help with individual problems, please feel free to post the here, or search the forums , or both.

the nearly eternal load times
Except when trying to load very large layouts, I've not seen this issue myself, or reported by anyone else on the helpdesk. Are these load times when loading Surveyor, or Trainz itself?

utter lack of unusable third party content
Wouldn't this be a good thing (lack of broken/unusable content)? I'm guessing you mean lack of useable content... In which case, you need to speak to the 3rd party creators about updating their content.

Please keep in mind that we are working with the community on a 'clean up' program to repair as much of the faulty content on the DLS as possible. However, this will take some time to complete, due to the number of items.

Not only does it take an eternity for even the simplest layout to load[/quote]
Again, I can't remember any reports/tickets on the helpdesk that showed this issue. I would suggest looking at other areas that may be causing this issue. Check your anti-virus and firewall aren't partially blocking Trainz...

all of the patches released for this game seem only to compound the problems
Unfortunately, computer programs will always be like this. That said, our recent patches have tended to make better improvements, rather than issues, at least as far as I've seen.

HOW ABOUT SPENDING MORE TIME BETA TESTING, AND FIXING BUGS SO THERE WOULD BE LESS NECESSITY TO ISSUE 187 DIFFERENT BUG FIXES-?
Well, we do actually perform quite a lot of beta testing. How much of course depends on the patch. There is, however, a limit as to how far we can go with testing before we have to release the update. We do work to have the least number of bugs in an update, however it is still software, and as such there will always be bugs...

CONTENT MANAGER AT LEAST PLEASE NOT BOTHER DOWNLOADING CONTENT WITH MISSING ASSETS THAT CANNOT BE FOUND?
And what about those of us who want to use that item? There's a number of routes that use payware, which can generally be easily found (if still available). It can be frustrating at times, however we won't simply stop you from downloading content on the DLS. The easy way to find if a route has this issue is to download just the route. If it has 'unknown' kuids, then you can either delete it, or continue downloading.

AND FOR THOSE OF YOU WHO DO UPLOAD CONTENT, SOME OF WHICH YOU MUST ENDURE 7 LEVELS OF HELL TO COMPLETELY COLLECT, WHY THE HELL CAN YOU NOT BE BOTHERED TO SUBMIT YOUR CONTENT WITHOUT THE NEED TO GO MUCKING ABOUT SEARCHING FOR DEPENDENCIES THAT MANY TIMES ARE NOWHERE TO BE FOUND???!
Many creators choose to host their content on their website, for various reasons. This may be because it is payware, or that they may not agree with the DLS upload agreement, or just prefer to use their own website. This is their choice. Same as, if a creator wishes to use an asset from these sites, then that is their choice as well. You can go an have a go at them, but this really won't help anyone, as it's more likely that the content will then disappear entirely...

Peggy on Helpdesk says..... no refund. Tokens.

Have fun,

ohh I forgot about that. sorry my bad.
:o :o :o

My self I love TRS12 becuse of the details and realsome of it. I been in a cab of a real train and TRS very close to what its really like. I have pics to prove it too.

I have quite a few gripes about TS12, mostly trying to find a solution for low framerates and stuttering when there's even a moderate amount of AI traffic running far outside of the player's view circle. Being selective about which assets I use on my route and having a first class ticket gives me the luxury of deleting and not using anything that's broken or has missing dependencies. As for slow loading, coming in here from Railworks 2 which took several minutes to load any route, I'm used to that and run in a window so I can play solitaire or freecell while waiting for it to load.

Note the task manager at lower right, the reason it's stopped responding is because trainzutil.exe has taken over - that problem is usually caused when creating content, when I'm launching trainz from content mangler to test something. I do, however, play a lot of solitaire games while waiting for Trainz to decide it's finished with its secret background missions and ready to actually run the game.

The search to the far corners of the Universe

Ah yes, the search to the far corners of the Universe for those elusive missing dependencies:

"WHY THE HELL CAN YOU NOT BE BOTHERED TO SUBMIT YOUR CONTENT WITHOUT THE NEED TO GO MUCKING ABOUT SEARCHING FOR DEPENDENCIES THAT MANY TIMES ARE NOWHERE TO BE FOUND???!"

Yep - while I don't agree with some of what has been said by the original poster, I certainly support this.
_____

Now some seem to think the Great Search is part of the fun. I don't. While Trainz has provided me with much enjoyment I'm now at the stage where if all the dependencies aren't on the DLS or if directions for missing dependencies aren't given in a read-me I just delete the content.

Wow, I have alot of issues with TRS V 2.6 and you dont see me go boom like you..
Any hoo.. Double check your hardrive space, That could be the issue..

To the original poster,

TS12 is the best version so far, in my opinion. I understand you may be having problems, but please, don't throw your toys out of the pram. It doesn't cast you in a very good light, and makes people less inclined to help. For all its faults, Trainz is actually an awesome program. Yes, I've had to search for missing unknown dependencies myself, and it is annoying, I do agree with you, but it is also one of the things of life.

Being the owner of a copy of Train Simulator 2012, although the graphics and other things are superior in some departments, TS12 outshines it in so many areas, key among them is route building. I still haven't got my head around TS2012's route builder even with the instructions, whereas in Trainz I can get up and go in a few minutes. In short, although Train Simulator 2012 may be visually more appealing, I would still choose Trainz over Trainz Simulator 2012 any day.

Speaking from a software development point of view, fixing bugs and suchlike is extremely frustrating. Even the most simple program can have you banging your head in frustration as to why things don't seem to work, no matter what you do to fix the issues. I know, I've been there. As Zec has said, Trainz is still software and nothing is perfect. Please think of the team that write the code before you go slagging off their work.

Cheers,

trainzguy

Thanks to all

I appreciate the feedback, and, yes I have sought help to rectify my issues, unfortunately to no avail- If my tone was too harsh I do apologize, however I do find I derive more enjoyment from the older editions, so I shall return to them- I call me an old stick in the mud if you must, but I thank you all for reading, and allowing me to vent- Enjoy the Railsim of your choice

After readings Alco,s Rant I would like to make the following comments. I understand where he is coming from as I have been frustrated by some of the problems I have encountered Since I started with 2004 quite a few years ago which ranged from mild annoyance to wanting to throw the computer through the window without opening it!. However to say 2012 is rubbish is unfair to 2012 and I must disagree with him. Personally I like 2012 dispite the few problems I have encountered. The main reason is that at least some of the problems Alco mantioned are not specific to one version of Trainz but to at least 2 and secondly I have encountered problems and issues with all versions of Trainz and to single out 2012 does 2012 an injustice.
