Transferring From A Computer To A Laptop

Some Might Say
I am getting rid of my 6 year old painfully slow pc and i have TRS2006 on it. I have several locos and multiple units, both payware and freeware as well as a FCT. So, is it possible to just 'Copy And Paste' everything onto my new laptop?

And what specs do i need to run TRS2006 Version 2773? by that i mean just go up to the salesman in PC World and give him a complocated numbers and letters on it that have no idea what they mean.

Evening All,
Glen

Sort of!

You would need to install the program in the normal way, but you could then copy over the content, say by copying to a plug in external hard disk, or a connecting network cable-method may depend on the connections available on your older PC.

The most demanding requirement is the graphics chip in the laptop-bear in mind that you are stuck with a built-in graphics chip that can't be upgraded in the way a desktop can
. Get the most graphics/video memory that you can find/afford. High spec laptops are still pretty expensive even though laptops can be had for £200 these days. Expect to pay £800+ and specify that you want a machine suitable for gaming.

It makes sense to work to the specifications for the latest version of Trainz even though you intend to use 2006-these are the recommendations for Classics, but Trainz 2009 is on the near horizon, though the specs don't yet seem to be available.

Windows 98/2000/ME/XP/Vista P4 2.0Ghz • 1GB RAM • 256Mb video card (Geforce 4 equiv.) Direct X 9 or higher • Direct X compatible sound card 8X CD-ROM • 56K Modem for Internet access Installation: Approximately 2GB of available hard disk space.
(I'm not sure these are high enough specs-I need 10 gig+ for all the content on my pc, and 2 gig ram would be better).

I have Trainz2006 on my pc but recently installed it on my Dell laptop which has a good NVDIA card, 2g ram and 250HD, etc. It runs fine and the machine was around £650 when I bought it. The graphics card level will always be important of course.

Hi.

The best Dell laptop for Trainz is the Dell XPS M1730. I'm using this one since almost one year and my BIG route is running just like a charm with 300 wagons on the route and a dozen of locomotives. My frame rate is ranging between 30 and 40 in most of the time. My CPU is 2.4 dual core 2 with two Geforce 8700 gs 512 mb SLI.

It can be as high as 2.8 dual core 2 with two Geforce 8800 GTX 1024 mb SLI.

Andre.
