Trainz Update Announcement (SP6)

Example for Trainz Plus: go to MyTrainz => Product Downloads => Download TrainzPlus => TRS22 TRAINZ PLUS Installers for Windows (you will see "Build: 131950" - which is SP6) => right-click the download button => Copy link address

How do I do this?

I bought the game on Steam.

If you purchased the game from Steam, you can't revert to an older version (basically you are stuck with it).
As for the issues everyone else is having, I tried my Kansas route and it doesn't seem to be affected but I will keep an eye out on my other routes.

Cheers

I had a map I edited myself, and it was corrupted and stuck. Other maps were fine, but the last map I made was the latest update, and it was problematic. The map that was okay was a backup from a very old date, so my efforts would be wasted. I would have to spend a lot of time re-editing it to my liking, and this is very annoying.

I dunno why, but it is working fine for me after update.

Take a look at <kuid2:214658:101010:1> Aylesbury to London Marylebone (Updated). Search for "sig 2aH LU LH 4m tall 52" pan around and see if you have any issues.
Downloaded and installed. Some assets labelled "Unknown Location" or "Third Party". On loading into Surveyor there was a noticeable number of "missing asset" cubes scattered around the layout - not all seemed to be related to those listed as missing. As per my usual practice, I deleted all missing assets.

Yes, issues in rendering distant objects.

I did some experimenting with the following observations.
  • Saving the Route (with a new name) upgraded it from build 4.5 to 5.6. Reloading the upgrade made a noticeable difference. Still not perfect.
  • I noticed that the route contains a huge number of billboard trees including many tree splines. Perhaps the "(Updated)" in the route title indicates a very early origin?
  • Deleted (via the Disable option in CM) all the tree splines. Another significant improvement in performance. Almost no rendering issues.
  • I replaced (via the Bulk Replace option in Surveyor) as many of the billboard trees with their PlantFactory equivalents (or "close-enoughs") as I could - I didn't get them all because some of the billboard trees had no PF equivalents.
The end result, in both Surveyor and Driver, was the elimination of the rendering issues.

Now I know that this is not the solution for everyone but it does illustrate a point that posters have made over the years about the continued use of legacy assets (in this case billboard trees and tree splines) in the latest Trainz versions. They are clearly a drain on system performance.

In my own routes I have not seen any issues after the update.

It depends upon the route. My small Gloucester Terminal route runs fine, but my very large route with a very large city runs very much the same as others have described, This is a route that had 20-26 fps over most of it, with some lower framerates in the built up parts in build 129343. In SP6, I was seeing 6.8 fps with buildings and trees popping up and track becoming chunks or the rails not drawing in at all leaving only ballast splines. It isn't only tracks, trees, and buildings. Roads and other splines are sometimes missing or sometimes draw in chunks and bits and pieces disappear as the camera is moved.

Yikes... Glad to know I'm not the only one.

Well, I'm seeing none of the issues that have been reported here. Everything is running as well as before.
Same here. Maybe my routes are not as scenery intense, however I find it hard to see how I could add more trees and shrubs in my routes. All my rotes now use HD and settings are maxed out.

My current project is just over 400MB in size (according to CM), is very scenery intensive in several places and has 1176 separate assets. I have updated the main SpeedTrees assets to their PlantFactory equivalents.

It runs perfectly in builds 131950 and 131965. No issues at all.

As I pointed out in my post #51 above, in at least one route that has been listed as an issue in the SP6 update, the problem was in the excessive use of old legacy assets without LODs.

I have tested most of my routes now with build 131950. None of them use billboard trees or tree splines. I do use a lot of grass splines by jankvis. I have all the settings maxed out. My routes all have been converted to HD.
I run trains with the V Sync set to half. I measured the fps's and GPU usage for all of them. All but one route runs a solid 30fps. One route dips down to 26 fprs, but it did also on build 129343. All my routes have a GPU usage between 38 and 50 percent. The CPU usage runs about 20 percent.

Several of my routes I build in Trainz 2004 and have updated them over the years by converting all the billboard trees to Treez. I updated all the textures to the new stuff. Also updated all the track and road systems to the newer versions.

I guess my suggestion to those having performance issues is to make sure that you have eliminated most of the assets that don't use LOD's. Get rid of all the billboard trees and tree splines. This should improve the performance significantly. I don't know why the recent release differs so much from the previous releases on the handling of some of these older assets. But so far, I have no complaints about the performance. At this point however there are no direct PF tree replacements for the Treez I am currently using. I will wait and see how this develops down the road.

I have a friend who is running an RTX 4070TI with a Ryzen 7 7950X3D and he was never able to get above 30fps on pretty much all of his installed routes. Especially ones with high amounts of ST_RMM Trees.

Thanks for looking into it.

I've started the process of doing something similar. In the short time I've got at the moment, I ended up disabling all assets used in my route. What's left (unsurprisingly) is not causing any issues, but I don't understand why any route assets are showing if I've disabled them all.

UPDATE: A complete restart and no route assets are showing having disabled them, as expected.

Yes, it took me a while to figure out that after disabling assets in CM you have to, at the very least, exit the route and then reload it. Makes sense in hindsight.

I had to do more than that - come out of Trainz and restart it from the launcher.
