Trainz crashing on boot-up....

Can anyone suggest anything here please? I recently bought and downloaded Trainz 12 and Trainz 2010 from Steam and I'm having the exact same problem with both games. Everytime I hit the start button they crash to desktop and leave an error message. I have checked and updated all drivers and directX etc, and my machine passed the pre launch check with all green ticks. The pic below is the error warning I keep getting, can anyone suggest what's causing this please?

Hi jon157uk,

Welcome to the forums.

Before I can advise you further you need to register your serial numbers with N3V. This can be done by clicking Planet Auran above, then clicking Serial Number on the left of the page, then filling in the form for each version you have.

Shane

Now I can see that you have registered both versions, I can now assist easier.

Firstly, the error indicates a possible memory issue. What are your computer specifications?

Shane

Not sure how much detail you want mate but the basics are:-
Intel Core 2 E6750 @ 2.6MGz
3GBz of DDR2 RAM
Geforce GTX8800 card (768MB)
Windows XP Home (service pack 3)

That's enough information at this point.

Firstly, can I verify that your GTX8800 card is up to date driver-wise?

Secondly, try clicking Content on the Launcher with each version in turn to see if you can get Content Manager to appear. If you can, a database repair (File>Extended Database Repair) may help.

Shane

Yes mate, the graphic card drivers are updated automatically from the nVidia website. I've checked and I am using the latest one. I can get 'content manager' to open OK but for some reason it wont go online despite having it in 'trusted' in my firewall settings.

OK. That may be a different issue. I didn't think Nvidia drivers updated themselves, but I'm happy enough to learn something new.

Try the database repair and see if that allows you to run Trainz.

Shane

OK I've done the data repair but I'm still getting the same crash as shown above, after I click the 'OK' on the message I get an error report file (the send or dont send type) which says 'Trainz has encountered a problem and needs to close'.

Jon

OK - now we're getting somewhere.

Somewhere on that screen is an option to view technical details.

Can you click that, then double-click the CrashLog.txt (or similar) file, then copy and paste the first section of this into a post.

That's the first part of the error log, is this the section you mean?

Yes - that's the right section.

The error seems to have happened in the Dinput.dll file which is DirectInput, part of the DirectX group of files.

Can I get you to update your DirectX using my sticky thread in this forum before proceeding any further. As you are using Windows XP, the web install method is sufficient - just remember to untick the option for the Bing Bar.

Shane

I had a feeling that may be the case.

In that case, the redistributable version may be able to repair the DirectX files. Be aware that it is a more complex process, so you will need to follow the instructions given in the DirectX update thread for the redistributable version to the letter.
