Trainz 12 problem with Surveyor (editor); changes keep disappearing. Please help

I have spent several hours on editing a layout and all my changes have disappeared. Actually the name of the layout has disappeared from the list of layouts yet I can find it if I try to merge a layout. Its title is red. I changed the properties to run Trainz as an administrator. Will that solve the problem? How can I get back to the modified layout?

Thanks for your help!

By default you only see favorite routes listed. So either favorite your own route, or remove the filter. I think thats where your problem is as I had the same issue when I first tried using surveyor.

If the title of a route is red, that means there's some problem with it. View the route in Content Manager.

Thanks for your help guys. I started over with a new layout and its all fine and dandy if I only add one or two things, but if I add more, the name of the layout disappears and it shows there is an error. Why would adding TRS loaded stuff to a blank layout cause errors? Is there a "dummies" version of explanation for the content manager? How do I address errors or missing depnedencies in the content mngr? Pardon my ignorance fellas. I am an artist not an engineer ;)

Please help! :)

As Scottbe8 pointed out, check out the error in CMP and let us know what it is if you can't figure it out yourself. Two other key things to be sure of when working on a route: 1. Be sure you have plenty of free disk space - a route can get corrupted if you're on the low side. Second is to check your disk for bad sectors (chkdsk /r, from the Run menu or command prompt) every once in a while.

There appear to be several versions of what I saved, some are faulty, some have dependencies that are faulty. Looks like one that is faulty has error that says " the tag 'thumbnail' is not permitted within a container of type 'map'...

Any ideas? Is it weird that I can see the layout with all my modifications if I try to merge it to another. Its in there somewhere.

another says that kuid 497420:100044 is faulty.

Thanks for helping me.

I've had this issue before but I can't remember what I did to resolve it.

You may want to run a database repair. In Content Manager click on File then Quick Database Repair. This isn't so quick, so plan on doing something else away from the computer.

Database corruption is caused by many things, but most importantly it is cause by not allowing the program to shutdown completely before turning off the computer. The program may appear to have shutdown, but it has not. The program is actually closing down the database, the assets.tdx file, and running a clean-up utilities in the background. The way to avoid this is to wait about 5 minutes after using Content Manager Trainz TS12 before shutting down your computer.

The tag 'thumbnail' error is usualy caused by a empty entry. look for double qoutes in the config. Either delete the entry or supply a tumbnail. If you have Asset-X, it will do it for you.

Hmm, TS12 did introduce a new feature of adding thumbnails to routes. Perhaps yours just errored.

Backup one of the faulty routes and try editing the thumbnail container out, as well as any associated brackets that appear to be affiliated with it and anything in the between. Better yet, just open the route in CCP and X it it out.

Thanks gentlemen, I must be a complete novice. I am not even sure of what a Thumbnail is or how to bakc up a faulty route and/to editing the thumbnail container out. Maybe I am destined for driving not surveying. If you can take me by the hand through what I should do next, I would be much obliged.

In CMP, highlight a faulty route and (assuming it has a red exclamation mark, as opposed to a puzzle piece) hit Ctrl-Shift-C (or just use the menu to pick Open in CCP). Look for anything that might be in red. Along the left are different screens in which you can pick to look; the screen itself appears in the main screen. If anything is in red, hit the X next to it to delete it and Save. Recommit (Ctrl-M) and see if it works.

Hello All,

I am having trouble finding a good route for the beautiful Rio Grande locos and rolling stock. Do any of you have any suggestions?

Also do you know of any of the K27, 36 and 37's that will run in TRS 12?

I would like to start a new thread but for the life of me I cannot figure out how to do it again. Are we only alloowed on active thread at a time?

Still getting my bearings,

Thanks for your all help,

Hi Wilsonengineer,

If you are trying to create a new thread, you want the button at the top of the thread listings when you are viewing a sub-forum. (It's labelled 'Post New Thread')

OK, that seemed to work! Thansk so much.

One last question...somehow I managed to puit down a "building" in my inital changes that has audio with it that is very annoying. I think it might be on that is now invisible. Is there a way to find out which file has audio attached to it and delete it?

Thanks again for all your help!!!!

If you can find out which building it is, it can be checked in Content Manager, but it is quite complex to modify some configuration (config.txt) files.

Open up your asset in CMP and "Sound" and delete it.
