Wow a new trainz version, so here we go again, anything you want to include from older than TS10 you will have to fix and bring up to that version. They haven’t even bothered to give a required PC specification.
Trainz 10th Anniversary Collector's Edition has just got some gimmicks added but have they fixed all of the basic stuff, like sound (Doppler, hearing trains from 20 miles away louder than the one you are driving as it is now and more), has the cab got a heads out view and does the smoke effect now change with the conditions in the fire box (darker with addition of coal and lighter as the fire burns more effectively?
All of these things and more have been lacking in trainz and never really addressed but detract from realism of operation.
Multiplayer, not everyone wants it but here it is being shoved down our throats, I wonder how many people asked for it? I would say only a small percentage of users asked for it but like everything today it is the vocal minority that seems to get what they want.
So what have we got? Very limited backward compatibility (so you are going to have to work your butt off once again to bring your favorite older stuff forward, satellite view WOW, some extra speed trees and some new routes added (some if not all we have already).

“* Feel what it's like to put your hands on the controls of powerful locomotives as they power through towns, cities and rolling countryside.”
We already have this.
“* Design and Build your own railroads with the versatile Surveyor editiong tool and access hundreds of thousands of user-create assets from the Trainz Download Station”.
We already have the editor and as the sim is only backward compatible to TS10 you are not left with much.
“* Share your enthusiasm with other rail fans as your combine your efforts to operate a working rail line in the new Trainz Multiplayer.”
Not everyone’s cup of tea
“* Zoom all the way out to the altitude of a satellite to see more of your railroad.”
You will not see much from that distance.
“* Many new realistic SpeedTree assets to use in your routes.”
Wow big deal
“* Backward compatible with TS2010 content.”
Does not leave you with much, except work if you want to bring your favorites forward.
For me it just don’t stack up, I will use what I have in trainz and also concentrate more on MSTS as some great things are happening with Open Rails, I tried out the current version and it has advanced a lot, yes it still has a long way to go but the potential for a really great rail simulator are there.
I would say that if you are into multiplayer go for it otherwise it isn’t worth it, especially if like me you have heaps of stuff you have worked hard to get up and going and are not prepared to do all that fixing again.
Just my view.

Well technically its not even 10 years yet.. Wasnt released to the masses till late 2001 IIRC :mop:

This time 10 years ago, i was sitting here running MSTS and trainz, i dont think.. was even a word to anyone outside the Brew Crew

Oh ok:hehe: yea I didn't really join trainz unit 2007 or 2008 Sort of was taking a stab in the dark. Glad you know your trainz history.
Some of it im trying hard to forget (those that know will know!) just purchased myself the collectors edition 2012 and have a bit of an old nostalgic trip thru the forums
Really aint used Trainz since 2006, maybe 2012 will respark me, who knows... In the meantime i might go play railworks till the 2012 dvd gets here
